The two most important words in computing......BACK UP.

I hope you chaps can retrieve your information.

      Cheers

Back up? Oh that. Yes I do, onto the second hard disk......

I do a secondary back up once a month(ish), but every thinmg that matters is backed up on to the laptops other hard disk- If all is lost on the boot and program drive i still have all the info, docs etc. just whip it out and shove it in a new laptop.

Its just so irritating when it happens right in the middle of something.

I back all my stuff up on another drive and then have my photo "archive" backed up again on a third one!

SWMBO lost 12 weeks of her work stuff because she had disabled her automatic (daily) back up "by mistake". Some was retrieved from the broken drive at considerable expense. Not good.

          Cheers

I keep pictures on one seperate USB hard drive and music on another one. Easy to say but backing up remains a pain and none of us do it regularly enough. I'm not even a great fan of automatically backing up as you come to reply on it then one day your PC goes legs up and you discover the back up hasn't been working for the last six months!

My back up software gets annoyed if I haven't backed up for seven days and gives me messages just irritating enough to prompt me into doing it.

I wouldn't even want to think of how much trouble I would be in if I did that!!

Was at the witch doctors last night. I asked what he could do for my lap top.

After a quick look and test, He looked up and asked; Would you like it buried or cremated.....?

The motherboard is fried and by what I told him the graphics processor is dead to!

Bugger, I am now on a PC hunt!

Ian, you still could salvage your data stored in your hard drive. If it's still intact all you need to do is to hook it up to a 2.5" USB external case or maybe using a special cable connect it to a normal PC. Sorry for the loss of a fine computer. I have one like yours and it has become my faithful companion. Would be hard to go without it.

                      Cheers

Thanks for the thought Marcos, I will be re using the hard discs from it. I have a dock for 2,5" HD from the last time it happened! Yes this is the second time with this Laptop. The first time it was still under GT, but now its my pocket that has to eat the bill.

In all fairness the guy in the shop did say that he could hold of another Mother board but it would not be a new one as the model is no longer made!!! As it would cost more than a new lap top, there is not a lot of point to it really.

So I think I will just have to wait a bit and see if I can find a good desk top to a reasonable price! I might even go mad and give window 7 a try!!!

Any recomendations for a new PC any body? And DONT say a mac or Apple!!!!

All depends on price and what you want it do. Do you want shop or custom made.
