    I need a rant!!! sorry

Today it was minus 18c! Nice and frosty, crunchy snow. You know the stuff childhood memories are built from. That was the highlight of the day!

The journey to work was fairly painless, just the odd prat that cant work out how to drive more than 30km/h. Buy some winter tires or take the (none-existent) bus!

The journey home...13km door to door. TWO BLOODY HOURS. The first ten of which was mostly in first gear with the odd bit of second gear thrown in. Two kilometers up the road and it was back to crawl stop crawl stop.

Yes the council has run out of road salt, yes there was snow on the roads and black ice where you least want it- bottom of a hill at the approach to a round-about- that was fun. The real problem was ever man and his dog "driving home for Christmas". They have forecast a snow storm tonight and every one has gone mad and taken tomorrow off and set off today. The last time I saw so many cars, I was in Birmingham visiting family in England, but they where moving!!

    Rant over.

So how bad is the snow where you are. I have 40cm in the garden, and more on the way tonight.

Our council certainly haven't run out of salt, in fact I think they're saving it to put on their chips next summer. I haven't seen a single grain of salt on our roads locally. Snow is 80mm and temperatures have hovered around zero to minus 4

Same here, snow and ice on the roads. If i damage my car i will be claiming of the Council, that you can be sure of. They have a duty of care to make the roads safe not only i winter but all year round. If you skid and crash on the ice because the roads are untreated, then legaly they shouldnt have a leg to stand on.

Was -18C here too this morning at 6am. Roads were nice and clear though. Warmest it got during the day was -13C and it's back down to -17C now and we are expecting -20C tonight. No further snow though which is a bonus

Andy. Their insurance/legal team would ask why you wasn't driving in relation to the conditions if you had a crash. Just because they haven't had the time to treat the bit of road you are on doesn't mean that you shouldn't be careful of the conditions. The police would say the exact same thing in any report they filed too. Therefore if you did get a payout then it would be vastly reduced

I understand exactly what you are saying but here in England things are very different, if you tripped over a loose paving stone here the Council are held responsible and people get some high payouts. In this country we dont usually have these climate conditions and the main roads are kept very clear. It is the responsibilty of the council to do this religously. if they dont it is because they have run out of salt yet again. With that in mind they are totaly resposible and it is through cutbacks that they havent purchased enough resources to do the job, they have the equipment. Every year they say " we wont get cought out this year" same old crap. So by doing this they are making the roads unsafe and therefore should be held accountable for any damage without question.

Sorry Ian for stealing you rant lol

Well, Ian, living just 15 click's away from you I have pretty much the same cover of Christmas decoration here. I just haven't been having the same sort bother with it, as as you have - I'm on paternity leave so I get to sit in my flat, sipping strong-ale and admiring the little lump-of-love; sleeping, crying and belching on the sofa right next to me. Tomorrow however I might be cursing it to some place very hot, as that'll be my first day at work for the past 2 weeks.

                /Daniel

Well first off congrats on the rugrat! Is it your first?

Sipping strong ale; so its not Danish then!

Back to work on the 23rd? that's a bummer. I have to get through tomorrow then I'm off until next year! (I like the sound of that).

Just heard that the snow should hit Kbh. around midnight. So time for a beer!

Glædelig Jul til Dig og familien Daniel.

No worries Andy, rant away! As an interesting side line the police here have to levels of warning regarding snow and road. The first one is non-essential driving is not advised. the second it All Driving is not advised, The relevance to this being that if you where out to buy a pack of fags and a six pack and had an accident, it might not go to well in the insurance dept. If you are a doctor on the way to a hospital fine.

Funny thing non essential also includes work, unless you are in the emergency/medical/police. So if they say non-essential I could stay at home. Trouble is the Boss dont see it that way and I will get stopped a days pay- unless I phone in sick of course.....Hmmmm.

Thanks mate, yes it's my first and he's as handsome as his old man.

The brews are mostly IPA's from the heavy end of the scale but also Belgian ales or Danish brews inspired by those types and the occasional barley-wine. Unfortunately getting your hands on some old-fashion original English/Scottish strong ale, can be a real chore here in the city - unless you're into the "buy one, pay for three" kind of deal.

                        Glædelig jul og godt nytår!

I would have to say both. He's so young and still learning. And as this is an important part of his nourishment processing, I try to lead by example ;-)

I completely understand. Has been about 32 degrees c here and about 36 in our workshop with about 80% humidity. Good fun for work. Lol. Good thing I don't like the cold then. Lol.
