Richard Winters, Easy Coy. 506th Reg. 101st Airborne.

Just got back from a great few days with No.1 son doing a bit of touring, doesn't matter where, but we went to an opening of a museum extension for the 101st Airborne.

Damian Lewis, who played Winters in the Hanks/Spielberg epic 'Band of Brothers' turned up unannounced, all dressed up in paratrooper gear....Bit of a photographic free for all, but managed a few posing shots before he was hustled away.

I got the Pacific Box set for Xmas. Have to say it is a bit dark, the night scenes are just flashes of light. I know that is much how they would have seen it but I would have liked to see a bit more of what was going on. I heard before I got it that it was not as good as BoB, not quite sure on what that is based as the whole thing is totally different, I love it.

I thought The Pacific was all round very enjoyable, but you've got to approach it not expecting a sequel the Band of Brothers, otherwise you might be disappointed. Its presentation of characters and the timeline involved is very different, although the action is more of the same. In BoB, the story was centred on one group of people for all ten episodes, and even when a new character was choosen to be the protagonist, the rest were still present as main characters. In The Pacific, you've got three different characters in three different parts of the army, all with their own companions and tasks required of them. Essentially, you've only got three espisodes for each, and to fit a three year campaign. In my opinion, everything gets a bit rushed, and details and things that would have made excellent viewing are constantly getting brushed over (spoiler warning: like Iwo Jima).

Not to say that it's not an excellent series. I just think that the developers should have focused on stories not so isolated from each other.
