    Famous Modellers

HI all, I was listening to the radio today and they were talking to famous people about what they do as hobbies, shock horror no modellers. Is modelling so uncool that its covered with lies or a skilled hobby for the gifted.

So would you keep your skilled hobby when famous?

    Neil Young,Pete Waterman,Hermann Goering....trains

    Hawkwind's drummer (one of them!)....aircraft.

    I'm sure there are others.

If I was famous I'd definitely still make models.

      Hi Alex.

Just a couple of famous folks I've heard of:

I know Rod Stewart has spent a fortune on his model railway layout over the years. He's spent years building a complete layout of Grand Central Station.

I'll bet that Peter Jackson does or has built models - in between directing films like LOTR - especially as he's the driving force behind Wingnut Wings.

But you do have a point. How many of your work colleagues know you build toys as a hobby? :lol

          There is me!!!!!

Sorry, that is not true and in bad taste, couldn't resist it though. Interesting question though. Wonder how many famous people have the time?

I think you'd be surprised at how many and also how many really enthuse about this.

An uncle of my wife has been to several train related events and spoken to Pete Waterman, (sat next to him at a lunch and had a long in depth conversation once also) and apparently he's the most enthusiastic train hobbyist he's ever met.

Also as mentioned, Rod Stewart, (which I didn't know until Radio 2 this morning), apparently he always requests a big table to workon his layouts while touring.

I'll bet theres far far more than you'd ever imagine.

Hermann Goering liked planes lol. Thinking though stephen spelburg loves trains and owns his own model train company.

Ture too is how many closet modeller are there. I feel I can quite proudly say I AM A MODELLER! and like to think that this great hobby full of passion and detail would continue if fame came knocking.

All my colleagues know of my hobby. One is a serious modeller himself, that's the one who runs the P-47 SIG on Aeroscale.

The trick is not to assume that everyone is as interested as you are! Most non modellers do appreciate a nice model but might not care for an explanation of the subtleties of its camouflage.

I always have one model (usually my latest) on display in our living room and this usually attracts positive comment or,at worst,no comment at all.

                      Cheers

                      Steve

My boss (one of many) is a modeller and a couple of colleagues at work. Although the boss is fairly new to it, I hope one day he will join us on here. I will have to be careful what I say then...... not that I give a toss what I say at work. Having said that, he has the address of the forum so he probably guests on and keeps an eye on what I do anyway lol

I know if I was famous I'd do a lot more modelling! I'm assuming I'd have more time and money though!!

When people ask me what I do for a hobby, I reply..

"I make scale model plastic kits."

They usually just glaze over and I know what they are thinking, so I think..."Stuff you!"
