what is your top 5 aircraft kits of all time.

I'm currious to see what kits every models thinks is the best kits they've built, base on how accurate the kit is to the real item, fit of parts/easy of build and level of detail.

I'm on the market for a couple of kits and this might be the step to my next purchases.

when i was a lot younger i built a sabre, not sure who made it but i loved the fact that you could remove the rear fuselage to reveal the engine.2nd fw190 then it's got to be a spit thats about it i also like most ww1 kits.

Only built 9 so far. But in order Revell Westland Wessex such a lot going on also probably so different building a helicopter to fixed wing.

Wellington Bomber. Lots of inside detail nice to work on but never seen again after putting the fuselage together.

Third but all close a Revell Mosquito. Very bad fitting but strange putting it to rights was enjoyable & the finished result looks as the aircraft is such a beauty.

Just realised that these above are all the 1/48. The others not mentioned are 1/72.

But wait I am building a Revell Catalina 1/48. In the real this is the most beautiful aircraft I have ever seen in both the air & on the ground. It is so graceful. It's movement in the air when banking is quite something so smooth. With those enormous wings it has to be.

        My Votes:

Best older kit (now re released) Airfix 1/48 Lightning. Builds well and the detail is ok. You can buy sone great after market things, If you are to that kind of stuff, for it.

Any of the New Tooled Airfix 1/48 scale Spitfires or the Seafire. Great kits that build very well. (as do the New Me 109's as well).

Hasegawa Phantom's, (can some times be found boxed by Revell).

Also their Typhoon's are rather nice. Italeri also have a very acceptable one as well. The Hasegawa one has prhaps a bit better detail, but the Italeri ones are fine.

If you can get one the Airfix Buccaneer. A bit of a pig to build but the shape is good as is the detail. It just needs a bit of work to get it stuck together....

Funnily enough I would have put the Revell 1:32 Arado 196 top, ahead of the acclaimed Tammy 32 scale Mustang, until this morning when I came to do the canopy. What idiot at Revell decided the provide the canopy in all these flat pieces. It is a nightmare trying to square these up and very messy too. It has left me very dissatisfied with the model. Should finish it off in the next day or two and will, of course, be publishing pictures when it is done.

So for me the Mustang has to be top followed by the Hassy P40 - but I have not done many since returning to the hobby so will leave it there....

            Top five is tough.

I tend to build 1/32 so Tamiya's MkIX Spitfire stands out as does Hasegawa's new(ish) Fw190D-9. I'd also mention Trumpeter's Me262 (yep, that would be the much maligned Trumpeter).

Slightly different and much more challenging, would be PCM's Hurricane. Not the easiest thing to build but it makes a very nice looking Hurricane. Same for Zoukei- Mura's Ta152.

I'm currently building PCM's Spitfire XIV which is also nice looking,if a bit tricky, but that would make six

            Cheers

Barry if it's any help have a look at my thread on the Arado 196 and how I dealt with the canopy.

I could say exactly the same thing about the little 1/72 Tamiya Fw 190 I recently built.

                  Cheers

Lets be honest, is there a current Tamiya Aircraft that is plastic pig?
