Glue Spillage..

ok guys i have just finished beating my self up.. im really annoyed with my self..

i was building up the wing section to the spitfire, and some how i manage to knock the bottle of tamiya thin cement over ... and covered half my wing.. i have stood the wind out the way without touching it... do you recon if i wait for it to dry i could sand it smooth again. im really really annoyed with what i done ..

Looking at the part I would say you could get away with it. One of the good things with Tamiya extra thin is that it does evaporate very quick and if you dont touch it it more or less just disappears.

A minimal rub with a very fine bit os wet and dry should do it. But wait until tomorrow.

Yeah that's what I was hoping... I really am annoyed oh well lesson learned.. Don't knock the glue over again lol. Always a first for everything..

good luck with that Shane, i think we have all spilt something whilst modelling.

Only last week i spilt my bottle of microset.

I relid as often as i can remember too.

I just did the exact same thing on one of the 2 309's wings I'm building ! If you look at the pics you can see the discolored plastic on the small tail version.I let it sit in the sun for a day then wet sanded it down,had to rescribe some lines but saved it. Hope you can do the same good luck Shane!

Cheers Micheal, I popped in this morning before work and had a look, don't seem so bad gave it a little rub down and I think I will get away with it.. Feww I was expecting it so soften and warp with there being so much glue, will post pics tonight

Looking at your picture Shane I would say that a good 75% is OK & it is just very surface.

There are a couple of indents there.Do you use Mr Surfacer 500. This will fill those indents Ok. You may need to put coat on coat but I have repaired far worse than that & you would never notice. Lost nothing Shane but a bit of time. Nice thing about Mr Surfacer is that I clings on, does not break away and you can fill minor indents easily. Nice thing is you have not lost the panel lines so it's good news not bad.

If I can remember I put my glue bottle in a gardner's growing tray (no holes in the bottom) great for glue & paint. Pity some one does not produce a wide plastic un-spillable tray. Even worse is dark blue paint hit all over the place ug yucks.

You should get away with it. You did the right thing by leaving it alone to evaporate and dry.

I've done the same thing in the past,sh*t happens as they say.

I've also tried all sorts of schemes to avoid things being spilt,from Blu-Tac on the bottom to foam cut outs to take the various bottles. None of them can compensate for just being careful. The trouble is that I (like I suspect everyone else) am sometimes not quite as careful as I should be

Cheers guys, Laurie I don't have any of that but ill look into it, I gave it a little rub down this morning with Tamiya finishing paper the 1000 grit one and it's looking great, will finish it tonight and post a pic. I put the brush back in the bottle and put a peg on the piece I had glued then reached over for my tablet ( blackberry playbook not headache tablets lol) lucky it didn't go on that....

Try this Shane. It works perfectly.

Fix a Velcro prickly patch on your work top. Vecro soft side patch on the U/S bottle.

Top Tip fit work top patch on worktop horizontally !
