Life sucks and how to ruin peoples xmas

Last week i made a load of people redundant or cut there hours from full time down to 15 per week! yes i can understand the business case yes we need to improve productivity but a lot of these people were doing really good jobs and achieving superb results. We still have some complete wasters who are sitting pretty and living off the backs of other peoples efforts! sometimes i love my job and sometimes it sucks beyond belief

ok rant over i feel better now (i dont really but what the hell)

If it wasn't you that did it, it would have been someone else, unfortunately it's part of life

Nigel,I know exactly how you feel having once myself had to hire and fire,it is not a nice task by any means, but thats life, you win some and loose some.

Remember the days when you had a job for life ? these days the youngsters come and go in jobs,he who offers the best rewards is favourite flavour of the month, here is a true story-

During the sixties in Liverpool you had two main employers, the famous Meccano factory at Binns road,Old Swan and the Crawfords biscuit factory down the road, during the year everyone worked at the biscuit factory because the wages were good, come Christmas with Meccano at its peak producing Dinky toys,Hornby trains and the famous constructors sets every bit of manpower was needed,so on they moved from making biscuits to toys ! it went on like that for years with no loyalty whatsoever,so dont feel too drained about it you have just had to have been the bearer of bad news, after all someone has to do these things.

we have vacancies and struggle to fill them with the right calibre of staff, and nigel i too have to hire and fire staff, but i take the salary and i know my job description, if it ake the salary then i need to take the nasty bits of the job too....

its not nice but it had to be done...... chin up life goes on, and after all its a job, imagine being in the health service or similar telling people they only have 3 months to live....i could nmot do that for all the money in the world, i would just get too involved.....
