i watched `Ike countdown to D-DAY`on channel five, apart from that there was no other mention anywhere, with the pc crowd of today i`m beginning to think that they don`t want the younger generation to know the true horrors of war and what soldiers went through.

Perhaps we should join in & have a poll on that matter ! Laurie
You've hit the nail on the head here Laurie, differing interpretation of importance ...

Hopefully, as Ole mentioned, the "correctness" of all that happened will be dropped and 2014 will be a decent year of remembrance

As for the poll .... i know diddly-squat about football (yes i actually checked t'interweb to make sure this Ferdinand was a footballer ) so i vote "dont know"

My thoughts are with you all Dave. My lad has just got back from Afghan having served out there for 7 months with 1 Yorks so I know what you are all going through. Stay strong. I have so much respect for our soldiers past and presant and it is so refreshing to share a forum with like minded people, thankyou. You know it is so easy to often question the conduct of alot of the youth of today when you see the actions of a mindless few, like for example the riots, but if I ever want to restore my faith in our young generation I just look towards the armed services and see the outstanding work that our young soldiers are doing. We really do have a great, brave and creative young generation to be proud of.

What a perfect sentence .... it should be printed up and plastered on the sides of all the double decker buses nationwide, might enlighten some ignorant people.

          Nice one Steve

Well said Steve. Looking at our young men & women on duty for us all I always feel very proud.

What I have noticed is the very family atmosphere, these close knit units & the way we have seen how they look after each other from officers down to privates.

Nice to see them parade through the towns & cities of Britain that has revived a lost great tradition rather than hide them away. We have a good number of Jersey people in the forces & every now & then the Jersey Evening Post does an article on this subject. It is the least we owe them.
