Being an aircraft builder (primarily) i tend to buy various mags depending if the content appeals. Mainly its Model Airplane International , Scale aircraft modeller international (SAMI) and its related title Model Aircraft (more of a historical mag , less plastic features) and occasionally the new Airfix Model World . Although I have to say S A M I has gone off the boil a bit recently , so ive not been getting it as often. cheers tony

I tend to purchase any of the following Model Military International and Military Modelling, i also like Military in Scale purely because i build military kits, but to be honest i havent bought any mainly due to the cost of the magazines!

I must say that i would sooner purchase a half decent book on a certain subject now as opposed to buying endless magazines, I have far to many mags that i have stock piled, and i think i have got to the point where i would sooner buy a good book or put the money towards buying a kit or accessories.

I sort of go along with Tom above. I do buy the odd magazine if there is a specific item of interest but mainly I spend far too much on books.

i get airfix model magazine every month because i like it and it covers lots of different aspects of modelling and does not stick to one genre and covers all manufacturers not just airfix, occasionally buy military model international but this seems to get thinner every time i get it and s.a.m if i need something to flick through on my dinner breaks. was given a few copies of military in scale which impressed me but as yet have not found it on sale anywhere local and i am a bit of an impulse buyer.tried tamiya mag once but it was just a 50 page tamiya advert.

I don't buy mags. full stop. All the help, advise, information, great chit chat and a shop is here on Scale models. That's all I need and it's different every day.

Can't comment on scale modelling mags. but the odd publication I have skipped through recently seems to me to be mostly adverts and very little substance.......

The 3 or 4 quid a go saved gives me some extra pennies for my modelling.

                Cheers,

                Ron

Because I don't stick to a specific type of model (tank, plane, figures, etc) I buy Airfix Model World. Contrary to what I thought before I got my first copy, it's not all Airfix stuff. It covers all bases and all manufacturers. There's usually a plane, car, figure/bust, and armoured vehicle build each month but it does go further and sometimes has Space/Sci-Fi in it too. Usually good tips in the builds that can be used in whatever type of genre you prefer.

I particularly like the section at the end that has product releases featuring books, planes, armour, figures, decals, and resin accesories. More than once these pages have inspired me to buy kits I wouldn't normally think of for future builds.

Honestly, I don't work for them, I just like the magazine!

lol... when i was reading that homechild i was wondering if you where a sales rep....lol

I asked the question because i have been a subscriber to military in sale for a very long time and wondered if this is really a good mag or was there another good all-rounder, it seems that the Airfix mag seem to be one to have a look at next time i go down to the shops.

but please tell me more about the model mags you like and why

I only get one and thats Model Military International, just to see what i'm going to get next lol. Plus i get 'me time' in the bath reading it (or should that be, the only time i have a bath is when i get a mag).

                        Have fun, John
