    First PPL training solo flight today

    Above explains all really! I'm buzzing and needed to tell peopl! Had great fun and people who say it's the biggest compliment when the tutor gets out are correct - he parked up said, "I'll hope out and you can do one yourself" At first I was a bit shocked and uttered the words "Aww you're a d***" but soon sharpened up and flew probably the better of the days' circuits!!!

    Cool dude. I bet it will be a few days before you land! That must be the ultimate thrill, being told out of the blue, "OK your turn, I'm off for a cuppa". TBH I think I would poop. :-/

        That must have been some buzz Stuart....Tell the world, you deserve to!

        All I've got (And I'm looking at it as I type) is a poxy First Solo Flight certificate from Flight Simulator 2004! Did you get your shirt tail cut off too? As is the custom..

          Good for you, taking away that comfort blanket of the instructor is the point where you really wonder if you remembered everything

          The taking off and flying around bits pretty easy all told, it's the getting back on the ground bit that's scary as anything with an instructor let alone without.

          I should think you want everyone to know, well done, it's a great achievement

                  Party on dude!

                  Well done. brings back memories of my first solo.Was wonderfull how fast I got airborne and climbing in the C-150 without the instructor's weight onboard! Amazing to look right and not see anyone there.....then it hits home!

                  Strange how I don't recall my first "solo" in the super Cub.That is usually allot more daunting with the little wheel in the back LOL!!!

                  Does your logbook now also say "Pupil allowed to fly solo within the circut only"???

                    Fantastic , you will be buzzing for days if not weeks to come Stuart until you get up again , my old man used to fly light aircraft in the 80`s and early 90`s flying from Biggin Hill and he took me up many times , even as a passenger it was an amazing buzz with the engine noise the wind etc I loved it I remember going low over Brands Hatch a memory that will live with me forever , Its a very very expensive hobby but my Dad used to take friends and clients from Biggin Hill to France for lunch he got free flying time and got his solo hours up and a free lunch as a bonus , not sure if its the same now but once you have your licence you had to do so many solo hours to keep your licence up to date

                      Thanks so much guys, yes it's certainly one heck of a feeling. Knowing he thought enough of me to allow me to go unaided was a big rush!

                      The initial shock reaction was replaced by a big daft smile on my face and a focus on the basics, trim, speeds, procedures, all the stuff that's drummed into the student from the first lesson. For good reasons! I ended up a little high on approach but slow, so I sacrificed height for speed and I was soon back in business!

                      Theuns the aircraft in question is a nice humble Cessna 152, although I have solo'd in a taildragging motor glider before - a Grob 109 Vigilant. Whole different animal!! Although you're correct - the 152 leaps into the air without the instructor's weight in the seat (not that he's a big guy!!) And the entry in the logbook is P-1 for that flight (pilot in command).

                      I don't know how much more soloing comes into the PPL but it's another 35hrs training minimum (45 in total min) and before i can go for a commercial license it's another 150hrs in command.!

                      Once again thanks dudes, I'll keep you posted with progress
