A heads up about the Dragon AH6. Buyer beware.

Hey guys! Hello from Vermont. I hope everyone is having a great afternoon/evening/morning.

I spent 20 bucks on a Dragon AH6. A few things to think about before buying this model.

The racks on which the unguided 2.75in rockets are so small, I barely fit them in between my tweezers. The mold for these tiny, tiny, tiny pieces were also hot-welded in the center where they were supposed to sit on the rack. There is no way to remove this as it's less than a few millimeters wide. I had to take the entire weapons rack off because of this flaw.

Also, you cannot attach the rear bulkhead firewall without taking off the rear bulkhead bay because there is too much back-pressure on the bulkhead itself. The connection between the bulkhead and the rear cockpit deck is under so much pressure it's nearly impossible to connect both of these pieces together. I had to remove the bulkhead bay completely just to get a good fit, (Which is overstated considering there is no interlock, just a stupid little nub that cannot possibly hold the bulkhead under the current pressure). I had to take pressure scissors to close the connection. I will report what happened in a few hours when I remove the pressure scissors (I expect the tiny glue area will snap apart under the current pressure load. I may have to use crazy glue to close the connection

This is what i get for a 19.99 model. Considering the usual high quality of dragon models, I am very let down by these HORRIBLE design flaws. Considering the fact that I put HOURS into weathering the cockpit I am really angry because of this design.

It looks like this bird may be a cargo conversion type if I cannot get that rear bulkhead completely secured.

Buyer beware and be prepared for more headaches then the model itself is worth.

    Much love to all!

As you can see the rear bulkhead is under a tremendous amount of pressure!!!

Well, grrr I was right. Overnight the bulkhead snapped, and the entire cockpit is canted at a 15 degree angle...GRRR.

Hi Mike. I feel your pain. Perhaps you need to just step back from this one for a few days. I cant quite picture what you are having problems with but I never use to much force to join parts. It only seems to cause problems later. If parts wont come together with relative ease its time to start trimming or adding so that they do. Had a lot of problems with a recent build where copious amounts of filler and plastic card were used just to get a good result. Anyway, I hope you can get this one sorted out mate, good luck.

I never had much luck trimming. I have never used filler...how does it work...well, how would i apply it? Better yet, if you don't feel like explaining, is there a good tutorial here for fillers for beginners? What is plastic card?

Easy one first. Plastic card is polystyrene plastic in sheet form. You can also buy profile; round, square, H beams etc. Also tubes. Some use the trade name Evergreen or plasti-card Most good model shops sell it.

Filler...Many things are used as filler for plastic models. From the commercial brands like Humbrol, Squadron, Vallejo and Tamiya all make one. Then there are the special "fillers" like Milli-put. This being a two part epoxy putty. This has the advantage of not shrinking and can while wet be formed with a wet finger or stick. When dry its quite hard and can even be used to make things from.

many of us also use alternative things for filling. Small seams and cracks can be filled with tipex (liquid paper) Or CA glue (crazy glue as you called it). run it in the crack dust it with talcum powder and sand down. If you leave it to long it will go VERY hard and you risk damaging the plastic when you sand it.

Large gaps are best filled out first with strips of plastic card of stretched sprue glued in place to make the gaps narrower. Then when they are dry file them with a putty just higher than the area you are filling.

let it dry then sand with a fine sanding stick.

Used scalpel blades are good for putting the filler in. The wifes nail files (the soft ones not the metal ones) are good for sanding with!

                    Hey Mike

Ive sent you a pM in responce to your enquiry. Get some more pictures up on this thread identifying the problem and we will see if we can identify the best fix for you. With the experience on this forum you should be back on track in no time.

                    Steve

PS Dont know if you could do it but a picture of the plans that show the parts prior to assembly may be helpful.

After a serious break from the AH6, I came back and attached the tail boom, tail rotor and exhaust body.

Ok steve after dinner i will send you a shot of the plans..unfortunately the cockpit is already glued it.....i would have to cut down the body to get to the canted cockpit. It may be too late. I replied to your very generous PM. Thank you for the info.

Here you go Steve. Where the cockpit assembly fits to the rear bulkhead, that's what snapped off and canted the cockpit. Doh!
