    airfix tokens

    Hello,

Just thought i would write about Airfix tokens. I seem to have made quite a few Airfix 1/24 scale models in the last year ( just finishing my mossie ) on all the boxes there are tokens of varying amounts. The cheaper the model that you bought the less tokens you got. Or so i thought. Spit Hurri and Messer all have 5 tokens but the harrier which is considerably more has 3 tokens????? i dont get that but hey ho. The mossie has 6 understandably. The reason for this moan is i just rang up Airfix to see what kind of model that you can get with these tokens and of course i should have known that you can only get their cheaper range and not another mossie as i hoped lol.

The lady was helpful but i didnt really understand her when she said that the model that i was getting was for free. yes it is technically free, but it also cost me £355 to get all the tokens together to get a freebie.

My Airfix membership comes up for renewal and that certainly wasnt the best money that i spent on modelling.

Im sorry i had to get that off my chest.

    Cheers

    Si

    Hi Simon,

I'm leaping to the defence of the token system!

You can get some decent 1:48 kits (like the excellent seafire) and I do consider them as free as I would have spent the money anyway.

I'm in the Airfix Club too, and for what it costs I don't think it's too bad. The Mig 15 & Sabre kit you got free last year were superb - the Sabre in particular turned out to be the best quality kit I have yet seen in 1:72 - dunno what this years 1:48 Me109 is like as it's still in the stash.

I'm not trying to sound like an Airfix Fanboy (Truth is i'm a budget Academy fanboy) but I think Hornby are doing good things with Airfix.

Oh - and I love pin badges - i'm like a 10 year old when the new badge comes through :-)

Ok i agree i would have spent the money anyway but i think the money i spent joining flory's site was in another league in value. i didnt get anything for it i.e kits but, the knowledge and instruction gained from it made it was well worth the money.

I think im whinging because i have spent so much money and im a moaning grumpy git anyway, according to my best mate lol.

      cheers

Lol - I'm well into my forties now and a fully paid up member of the old grumpy git club.

You are the second person this week who's sang the praises of the flory site. I was thinking about signing up (specially since his free youtube videos have dried up) I reckon i'll have to go for it - I need all the help I can get!

I think that there are better (quality) kits out there and not too fussed on paying what i would consider over the odds for a kit. Having said that, i have heard good things of the new kits.

Make this a third endorsement of the Flory site... Well worth the £3 pm.

Accordinding to the Airfix Flying Hours Guide (maybe it should be 'buying hours') you need:

              12 tokens for Series 1 or 2

              24 tokens for Series 3or 4

              36 tokens for Series 5 or 6

              48 tokens for Series 7 or 8

The offer only applies up to Series 8 and doesn not include gift or themed sets, so a few restrictions. I though you could save up for the big mossie as well but it appears not.
