Idea for a new section THE BANK.

I saw this on another forum and thought it was a good idea.

A section called The Bank, probably in the sale/swap/wanted section.

The idea being that we all end up with a few optional parts left over. (Ever built a Dragon kit!!). So when you have so much you don't know what to do with it, post the parts up in the bank. It could also be decals.

Also if you need a part, due to the one you have, has emigrated to the tomato beds, is broken or badly cast. You could try there first.

What do you guys think? A good idea or a dead duck from the start?

Great idea Ian, we've all lost/made a mess of parts or just can't find that decal you need. Nice one.

    Have fun, John

It might become a bit messy looking through lots of posts for something you need, it might be better if I added some sort of database or even a shop and instead of add to cart it would be contact the person or something like that?

Could have a point there John. However if we all clear up after our self.... Or just have it so the person that needs the part opens a thread, when he gets the part (hopefully) that he has asked after, he delets the post.

          Yes, I agree.

"The bank" would be a great help when the carpet moster bites, which it has done too often during my "tankie" build! Seem to have spent loads of time finding pinged parts and sometimes not successfully.

          Tony.

            Great idea Ian.

Few logistics. But as Churchill said. Don't argue the details, the details will argue for themselves. When first discussing the Mulberry Harbours.

              I think I'm with Laurie.

I've got bags of decals and boxes of "plastic" but no idea exactly what. If someone needs a specific part or decal I am more than happy to have a rummage and see what I can turn up but I don't have any sort of list or database.

              Cheers

              Steve

I think its a good idea but to save time creating a data base and everybody listing separate parts surely its more time efficient to just have a parts wanted forum where you post what you need. technicaly the same people would use this as would a database.

not wishing to put a damper on a decent idea, just playing devils advocate.

always best seeing things from both sides so you can take the easiest path

So I think we can agree that the idea is OK. Its just how to make it work.

I think a data base will be way to much hassle both to set up and maintain, so I have a modified proposal

Instead of the bank maybe the parts bin. It would work like this. Say I have yet again lost a wheel off a car or broken the propeller of my aircraft. I would post this

1/35 Tamiya Jeep wheel needed. Part number A1 anyone have one? or

1/48 Spifire MkVII Need a prop for my MkVII Spit any one that can help with one.

If you dont have one dont reply.

If you do have one reply to the post.

Once the person that started the request has found what is needed, they can delete the post. Thus not end up with pages of I need this and I need that.

In short, keep it short and concise, keep the chat to a minimum and clean up after you have gotten the part.

Does that sound about right or am I being way to "narrow minded"...

That sounds like it would work nicely provided the posts don't get filled with "Try XYZmodels.com...." - or would folks appreciate potential sources such as that?

that's exactly where I was going Ian. in fact this idea already being used if you look through the forum. just needs a specific forum to post request threads in

                      job done mate.

read through and looks good, a simple idea that will help the community no end.

Thanks to the forum staff for implementing it
