    Mig3 meltdown

    Hi all

I was out for the whole day yesterday and on returning at 1.30 in the early hours of the morning I had a quick peep into the garden room to look at the Sturmovik I'm building at the moment. I looked up at the shelf that my planes are displayed on and to my horror the Mig3 starboard under carriage had collapsed.

I picked the plane up and the under carriage stayed in the same position.

What must of happened was the extreme heat of yesterday melted the glue so the under carriage collapsed and as the temps dropped in the evening it reset.

This morning I cut the leg stanton off clean and trim it up then drilled a hole in the leg stanton and a corresponding one in the fuselage wheel well. I then cut a pin to the right length. I Insert the pin into the wheel well and glue it with superglue. Once set I inserted the leg stanton onto the protruding pin into the wheel well and glued with superglue again. I taped the wheel in the correct position and allowed to set.

All is well and the Mig is back on the display shelf.

Nice Vaughan. I like, despite it sometimes being desperate, doing that sort of work. Tests patience & ingenuity. Both imposters in this throw away world.

Did a similar thing with part of a Catalina which had a terrible fitting & now is perfect, well near.
