Ever seen a grown man cry.....

Well you would have if you were in my shed earlier

After 2 months of building my Revell McLaren MP4-25 F1 car, sticking, filling, priming, sanding, filling again, airbrushing, glossing, hours upon hours of applying decals, glossing....... and so on, I finally today got to the final stages of build and was more than happy with the finish I was getting considering it's my first F1 car I've attempted and only my 4th model in some 15 years.

Then it happened!! I was attempting to fix the front suspension to the bodywork and decided it would be better if I was to use extra thin glue applied from inside the bodyshell. Without realising, it traced to the outside and under my thumb and fingers all down the side of the car, lifting the gloss, paint and all the nicely finished decals on both sides!! What a mess it caused, it was totally irretrievable and now lives in the bin :emo2:.

I've managed to keep some of the parts in case I one day decide to get the kit again and have another go, but at the moment I feel absolutely pee'd off.

Anyway, sorry to vent off but I needed some like minded modellers who would understsnd what I'm going through to share it with.

I'm off to have a big cup of tea and a tub of ice cream to help with the pain

    Atrb, Colin.

I'm truly, truly gutted for you my friend. Iahd a sip with camel that i struggled to get together and then ruined when I varnished it so I have some idea how you may be feeling.

    You have my deepest sympathy

    Regards

    Chris

      Thanks Chris.

All part of the joys of modelling I guess

Did you start the model again or could you not bring yourself to have another go?

      Colin.

Know exactly how you feel. I built a FW190D for the first ever GB on here. Went away for the weekend only to come back and find a water pipe had burst in the loft and brought down the roof...onto my newly built model. Gutted. Totally gutted.

Chin up and put it down to experience.

          We've all done it,spillt stuff,dropped models,had things fall on models. It's a sickening feeling.

Take a breath and build another one...you kmow you want to...really.

          Cheers

That's no good Colin, but chin up mate and onto the next project. I've binned a few in the short time I have been back into the hobby. At the time it seems a bit soul destroying seeing all that hard work spoiled by something simple. I have been building three Hurricanes simultaneously and had two paint jobs/decals wrecked by a poor batch of matt varnish. All you can do is try another one again or repaint. What was turning out to be three in two weeks has turned into one in two months. It seems we have all had issues like you have experienced here. All the best, look forward to seeing your next project soon.

We've all done it, and it was happening to us always, it is a small curse of our hobby. I understand this feeling, later that almost a year building my diorama, with a simple wrong movement, I spoilt the whole electrical installation. Without any option to repairing the made thing.

                I felt frustrated.

I encourage you and go for another model.

                All the best!

I'm afraid I threw it under the work bench (not really intending to damage it) but I misjudged the drop and it fell to the floor a broke into pieces which were then made smaller by my boot. (temper, temper) I'll have crack at another one dayLOL

Gutted colin! The only consolation is that ,as has been said , youre far from alone in this! Weve all done similar things, seemingly ruining hours of work , but remember those hours of building ,painting etc. are all experience which youve still got (unlike the model!) Best bet is to get straight back up on the horse and start another build, cheers tony

I feel for you, we've all been there. Its always the thing that I fear most after putting hours and hours and hours of work into a project that you do something right near the end to ruin it - I've had a couple of close misses recently (the Miss Demeanour Hawker Hunter comes to mind) where thankfully I stopped myself before doing irreversible damage! Chin up, have a beer and pick the next model to build from the stash...

I completed one of Hartmann's Bf 109 a while back, all done, dangly bits and all. "Time for a photo", I thought. I positioned the model on a base infront of my backboard (which is a substantial board) and,you can see this coming, the board fell over driving the model into the base. I lifted the board to see a pretty substantial amount of damage.

It's hard to describe the feeling, stunned initially and then angry at myself for being so daft. After that I just decided to fix the damned thing. Most parts were broken off rather than broken, a couple of propeller blades and easily replaced antennae being the exceptions. I remodelled the shattered propeller blades, drilled and pinned the undercarriage, scavenged antennae from the spares kit etc.

The pay off is that when it was all fixed, only I would be able to tell it had ever been smashed. I did feel good about it. I nearly broke my own arm patting myself on the back

                        Cheers

Thanks for all the replies lads, feel a bit better this morning. I guess it's one of the many lessons to be learnt with modelling.

Anyway, what was salvageable of the McLaren is now put away for sometime in the future and out came the half built Spitfire Vb to finish off.

If there's anything to be taken from the disaster is I've learnt quite a bit from the build stage.
