Well guys I'm still coming down from what has been a most amazing weekend. the weather was unbelievable considering the forecast. Arrived on Friday at about 12.30 got pitched up. It stayed dry all day, Saturday was lovely until about 2pm when we started with a few short showers . Saturday night we had a massive rain storm but that was the last we saw of the rain. Sunday was gorgeous and Monday morning was dry and sunny for getting the tents down.

The event was outstanding with some of the best RC models in the world being on display. I have taken some pictures of the scale model competition which not only covers the construction of the model but also the manner in which it is flown. ie To scale.

I have also got some of the display pilots and aircraft all of which I will post within the next few days.

This is a great event and very good value for money. A full weekend pass including camping is only £25. Its £9 for a day pass and £6 for pensioners so you may want to consider it for the future.

            Hi guys

As promised some pictures from the 2012 BMFA (British Model Flying Association) nationals held annually at RAF Barkston Heath.

The first batch are some from the scale model comp.

These aircraft are not only built to precise scale but as part of the competition they are flown to scale as well.

This next group are from the flightline display.

This next shot is of a Jet propelled 7m wing span fox glider flown brilliantly by Al Machinchy. You cant see the jet engine because it is concealed in the fuselage just behind the cockpit. The glider starts the displaywith the engine raised on top and starts off with a power flight. After about 5 minutes the glider is taken up about 500 feet, the engine is then turned off and allowed to cool for thirty seconds before being retracted into the fuselage. It was amazing to watch. The remainder of the flight was as a glider.

And finaly the last word goes to the father and son team who flew these red arrow hawks in synchronisation which is a massive challenge when your both stood on the ground.

            Hope you enjoyed the pictures

Amazing pics steve! As weve seen with andys (skyraider) builds, these large scale flyers are beautifully precise replicas. I take off my proverbial hat to these guys, i wouldnt dare to try and fly something i;d spent hundreds, even thousands of hours building!!! cheers tony P.S. the A10 is my fave , please tell me its got a working gun too!!LOL

Thanks for sharing Steve, truly stunning models, and to think they fly as well. Puts a static 1/32 to shame. Derek

Of course the guns are real Tony but we had to decommission them for the event. We did invite members of the Bogston marsh radio control tank group to do a drive past during the A10s display flight but they refused. Cant undersatnd why.LOL.
