Favourite Song or Tune Can Be Embarressing

Ok fellow forumites you have to give us your favourite tune or song but also tell us why it is (the more detailed the better lol)

    mine is

    Dont Stop Believing By Journey

    why

The Mrs just lights up when she hears it and we used to play it to each other when we were apart! Also Slade "Still the same" reminds us of how much our love has grown over the years! And for my Son Mikey Cat Stevens "Father ANd Son" How can you be a dad and not be affected by that???

Hello all, well for me this has got to be my all time favourite traditional song. I used to be a sales representative coveing the North of Scotland from a line between Dundee and Oban with everything included, including the islands. However the best trip I did every other Wednesday was from my home in Inverness to Fort William or Lochcarron then over to Skye (in the time of the ferries and just after the bridge was built) all the way up to Uig via Broadford and Portree then back down the west side by Dunvegan and Carbost to Kyleakin then homeward to Invermoriston and Loch Ness. Wow what a trip through all sorts of weather and numerous experiences of "tourists" on my bit of road.

To the song I hope you enjoy it,

The far Cuillins are pullin' me away,

As take I wi' my crummack to the road.

The far Cuillins are puttin' love on me,

As step I wi' the sunlight for my load.

    Chorus:

Sure by Tummel and Loch Rannoch and Lochaber I will go

By heather tracks wi' heaven in their wiles.

If it's thinkin' in your inner heart, the braggart's in my step,

You've never smelled the tangle o' the Isles.

Oh the far Cuillins are puttin' love on me,

As step I wi' my crummack to the Isles.

It's by Shiel water the track is to the west,

By Aillort and by Morar to the sea.

The cool cresses I am thinkin' of for pluck,

And bracken for a wink on Mother's knee.

    Chorus:

The blue islands are pullin' me away,

    Their laughter puts the leap upon the lame;

The blue islands from the Skerries to the Lews,

Wi' heather honey taste upon each name.

    Chorus:

    Meaning of unusual words:

Cuillins=mountains in the island of Skye

    crummack=shepherd's crook

to you all a very pleasant journey to Skye awaits those who like to seek out wilderness and friendly people, I might just have to re-acquaint myself as it has been a good eight years since my last journey. A fond rememberance.

    slainte mhar, slainte mhor

    (cheers)

    Jim

Well my favourite is Pink Floyds 'Ride on you crazy diamond' why ? because it sybolises dynamic beauty and can be synchronised with moving machines, second JohnWilliams playing 'Concerto D La Juan Arez' the most stirring music and a real uplifter, and third when they lay the sod on me you can play 'Ravels Bolero' with absolutely no ceremony whatsoever except perhaps a lone Tiger Moth purring overhead.

My dear wife says she likes 'O let the sun shine in' & 'Morning has broken' because they make her feel good to be alive.

i have loads lets see well i have 18 gb of music so erm lets see

        1. money: because the bass to that is so easy to play plus it makes me think yes i love that word.

        2. wish you were her pink floyd: because it makes me think of my grandad who past away nine years ago and how we were connected in so many ways.

3.i dont want to miss a thing: because it makes me think of my future and how fast i have grown up.

        4. Headstrong: because it makes me think how strong i have been over the yeas where my parents divorce hit me so hard but i kept it toghether and im so happy with my life.

        5. imigrant song by led zeplin: because i grew up to this song nd it makes me think of all the good times i had with my dad when i was so young.

        6. U2 stuck in a moment: because i have so many issues where i have been stuck in the middle and been asked who side to take with my friends and family.

        7. for my bro and sis more than words by extreme: because as the title they express more than words to me and i cant believe how grown up they are and how they have grown up even though they are still quite young.

        8. Faith of the heart by russel watson: cause my dad i have faith in with all my heart i trust him with whatever and i can tell him everything.

there are plenty more but i dont have reason for liking them only that i can play them on my guitar.

listening to that many songs according to my windows player will take 10 days to listen to them. lol

One of my most poignant ones is Mike and the Mechanics and "In the Living Years". So appropriate for me and my Dad who passed away seven years ago and that song said it all. So many things we never said.

When they put me in the box and throw me to the fish I specifically want Queen and "Who wants to live forever" because the Brian May guitar solo in that is one of my favorites.

If you want something to get me singing though (not something that many sane people would want to do mind) it would have to be something more in the line of the Kinks and "Lola" as the thought of a bloke dressed as a woman was all quite scandalous when I was a teenager or The Animals and "The House of the Rising Sun". I can't imagine anyone not singing to that. Beer helps!

When I was young my father came ashore and worked for a juke box company so we used to get hold of all sorts of Pre-Promotion copies of singles. We still have them in the attic somewhere and I keep meaning to get them onto a CD one day. Cracking songs all of them.
