How do you display your models?.....

I recently bought a display rack from Ikea for my 32 scale aircraft. Using it in my 'back-office' currently with 4 models on display but I will fill it up over the next year or two. It can take up to 15 Spitfire sized aircraft without it ending up looking too crowded, 3 per shelf. It is open fronted and sided so wings etc can extend out so it can take bigger aircraft and should accommodate the JU88 when I get around to the build. Anyway - what do you think and how do you display yours?

Barry I thought long about how to show especially when the collection started to grow & Pauline got a bit uppety to find aircraft among here prized house plants.

Also I read a vast amount of WW11 books & wanted to show the aircraft as I read about them. At least on the ground. Although the collection is out bidding my shelves so they may have to be suspended in the ether.

So did a mock up, some may even call it a simple diorama of an airfield. Also, which I found most important, to have figures, ground staff dotted around to give scale to the aircraft.

Now have a second shelf to divide 1/72 & 1/48.

Also as I have a hob gobbling eldest son (48) I made labels for each aircraft one of which is this one. Mistake it was an invitation not that one was required. We now have a rearrangement of the airfield at every visit including the labels. Spitfire for Lancaster etc.

I am presently looking for a display cabinet like yours Barry. But our nearest Ikea is Edinburgh. And the postage they want for it is excessive imho. Other then that i might have to get a local lad to build a bespoke one for me.

I have a Ikea Detolf bought locally off evilbay at the moment but it's full.

I was looking at the Ikea Detolf myself the other week, a nice display case for the price.

Haven't got anything at the moment but then again I've not completed a kit yet.

Laurie.I find it odd that your 48year old son feels he has to tamper with your display.Isn't he a bit old to be doing that sort of thing?.My daughter is only 20,but she never touches my models.Mind you,my iPad keeps moving from the draw I keep it in.And it's always logged into Facebook when ever I go on it!.

I'm still building mine. Just need to get the doors sorted with some glass/plexiglas.

I think Laurie's son just has an odd form for humour LoL.

It is not odd Dave He is odd. I am sure he takes after his Father. Said elsewhere that the first time I visited his house, after he tampered, re-arranged about 20 of his artifacts in his lounge. He phoned later to say that Paula his wife (she did) thought they had poltegeist. Certainly had it was me.

After another episode recently I have stickers with "phrases" typed on to stick all over his cloakroom. Childish o yes yes love it.

I considered buying 2 Deltof units, two of a similar type and this one I bought. Decided on this because it was better value at £45 compared to £60 each for two Deltofs.... in addition it offers much more display flexibility for my 32 scale models in nearly the same space. For £45 plus £30 delivery I thought it good value compared to two Deftofs and delivery at £150 total. The other units I looked at were even more expensive.

Barry the shelves look very spacious and as you say they will take up to 15 models so that should keep you going for a while. I've got at present two shelves co-incidetually from Ikea each topped with a sheet of 5mm perspex. As you can see I have now run out of space so will need a trip to Ikea. They are just their kitchen range in stainless steel and only £17 each plus the perspex of course.

Mine are stuck on top of my book case, no room for a display cabinet. Hopefully when I get my building shed, a potential Christmas prezzie, I'll have somewhere to display them, even if it is in the shed.

Right now mine are all in boxes from Hobbycraft as I dont have anywhere to display them, I have a glimmer of hope that I'm told if I buy the lit display cabinets from Argos I can put them in these, just the issue of £199 each and I need three, but I'm instructed they can only be these ones as the match the rest of the home furnishings !!!

Here is a link Allyne - one problem, the price has jumped £20 to £65.... Maybe I was lucky and got in on a special deal or something, I have checked my receipt and find I definitely paid £45. I still think its a good deal though even at £65 as it is good quality and I was surprised at the price I paid at the time.
