    Microscale Micro set and Sol

Has anyone used these and are they worth getting? I currently soak and float my decals in Klear, which I then cotton-bud in place to squeeze out air. It works great but I have some kits to build with reportedly thick decals so might need some heavy duty help..........

Oh, and do I need both 'set' and 'sol'? Would I still need to use Klear? Any info appreciated.

    Cheers

I use them all the time. Think they are fantastic additions to modelling personally. It's mostly Micro Sol i use to conform the decal. I then seal the decal in with klear.

Either or I think. I use Klear for small placards etc after which the decal solutions are no good anyaway as the decal is coated with varnish. If you use the Microscale process then Sol (red bottle) is the one that really softens the decals and forces them to conform. Set (blue bottle, easily confused with Liquid Decal Film as I found out the hard way) is supposed to improve adhesion, heaven knows how.

What ever you use Alex to avoid as many problems as possible virtually lay the decal on the spot it is going to be located still on it's backing.

Twitch it fractionally to one side then draw the decal onto the model about 1mm. Then hold the edge of the decal on the model with something blunt a cocktail stick on its side perhaps & draw the backing gently away leaving the decal in position. A bit of minor jigging but with practice you get it spot on.

Agree with you Steve got some Liquid Decal Film & was gob smacked to see the container looked just like Set. Thinks stupid not done anything to remedy that yet ?

Yep,I accidently slopped some decal film on a model and it buggered up the Klear coat!

          It won't happen again!

I'll get just the Microscale Sol then

So, just so I'm straight on this process: I Klear coat my model as per usual, and then use the Sol to sofen the decal, etc?

            Cheers, chaps.

Oui decal as normal and Inge the decals are dry apply the micro sol. Once you have put it on LEAVE IT to dry. Don't worry if it wrinkles, its normal and it will dry flat.

                Yep. Clear coat-decal-microsol.

Don't varnish the decal before the microsol or it won't work.
