A Cautionary Tale - or 'I learned about modelling from that'!

A tale of woe that happened to me just 10 minutes ago!

I've been dremelling and sanding a superbly-detailed resin P-51D wheel bay to fit between the wings of the host model (Tamiya 1/48). I got it to a perfect fit - the part was paper-thin and very, very delicate. Pleased with myself, I decided to hoover up the resin dust before moving on (Yes, I wore a mask!)...

Of course, the part was so thin and light, it got sucked into the hoover and completely destroyed...:fool:

Gentlemen, i think we can all see how dangerous Hoovers etc are. I suggest we leave them to 'others' who maybe more experienced at their operation.

That comes with its own risks in my experience.

I remember my missus last year thought she would kindly help out and hoover the table top where I was building my 1/72nd Red Arrow.

She did a lovely tidy job but to this day I've still not found the nose antenna, light, under carriage...

She did say there was a clink clink noise as she hoovered.... Bless her

                  i feel your pain.

my next project (starting tomorrow if i can summon up the bottle), involves a lot of resin parts..this is my first venture using resin so im gonna learn a lesson from you..although i promise to still make dozens of mistakes just to make you feel better.

i recently started using PE and thats another world of potential pain....ive lost count of the amount of sub atomic nuts and bolt heads that ive so so carefully placed into a pot only to have them ping off the end of the tweezers, or get stuck to my fingerprints and then lost forever..without so much as a tinkle as they float towards the floor!

my dad builds clocks and in his workshop he has a high level table with bright white reflective surface and a 1" lip all the way around it-all floodlit by a huge million candle power halogen lamp. He's learnt the hard way, that when he's trying to fit his fusee to his escapement that when a tightly coiled spring goes BOING, its lost forever and can never ever been seen again, even when wearing x 50 squillion magnification glasses!

Manys the time ive found him on all fours shining a torch across the surface of the floor praying for some sort of reflection. the first time i caught him, i thought he'd converted!
