    Red Sea Quandry

Hi guys, not convinced I'll find an answer but here goes!!

I've just returned from a holiday in Sharm el Sheikh Egypt. So, lying on the beach wasting the hours I see numerous huge ships leaving the Gulf of Aqaba and into the Red Sea, one of which to my untrained eye appeared to be a U.S. Aircraft carrier. I say this purely based on the size of the thing....bloody massive!!! This was on the 5th October, with my limited maritime investigation skills I think it may have been the Stennis. Anyone out there have any better info??

I know that the US has no less than three carrier groups in the region at the moment. One of them is that of the USS John C Stennis so it must be possible that that's what you saw.

We've got four minesweepers,a Royal Fleet Auxiliary (Cardigan Bay) and a Type 45 Destroyer (HMS Diamond) out there. They'd better look after that destroyer as it cost us about a billion quid!

HMS Illustrious and the French carrier Charles de Gaulle, along with their escorts and support vessels are messing about at the Eastern end of the Mediterranean, not a million miles away via the Suez canal.

This is all supposed to convince Iran to play nicely.
