I noticed a P-47 Thunderbolt in the gallery with a bare metal Mirror Finish and it looked great can someone tell me how this finish is achieved please.
Without knowing which one you saw I can only give a few ideas.
You can make a BMF several ways. The retro method is to cover the aircraft, panel by panel in kitchen foil. Takes forever but can look fantastic. Fiddly, messy and easy to muck up.
There are several kinds of paint. Humbrol make some called metal coat, The can be brushed on but I found them better sprayed on. Once dry they can be polished up with a soft cloth. The more you polish the more shine.
The third way is with Alclad lacquers. For a Mirror finish you need a high shine black undercoat and polished metal lacquers. The Ground work has to be 120% as the smallest mark in the base will show through everything.
