As many people have said they would be happy for a competition with no prize, so here it is, post your picture of your best / favourite model, each member can post pictures of up to 3 of their models.

Your submissions must be posted by 24th December, I will then create a poll and people can vote on the one they like the best.

:thinking: :thinking:Thanx 4 the invite. Don't know if I'll have time to do something or not. As rite know I'm busy bilding a jack-nife drilling rig in l/32 Scale 4 my who wants to put it into the spring Petroleum Show In Calgary. For a Display using a liner under the rig to save contaminates from going into the ground. Merrrry Xmas!!!!!!

OK I am an Hungarian one legged pole dancer with one eye born on the 23rd July 1934 at 13:23. {hospital records to follow.} So how do I claim this trip!

On the other hand the model competition sounds pretty good, although the prize could do with some work. The trip sounds a lot better!

How about 1 week in Jamaica for those whose DNA doesn't quite measure up or who are overstocked in the leg department!

If you did a survey '2 week trip to Jamaica vs making a model' I bet it would come out at least 40/60. (a lot of people suggest that model makers have their priorities screwed up - ask their wives).:smile6:

So what I really wanted to say was "great idea"!

Pete what scale is the Hawker Tomtit? looks really good

The Tomtit was built from a Veron Kit about twent five years ago .It is approx 1/6 scale 52" wingspan . The picture was taken at the old Walsall airport site just as some guys in the distance started playing cricket . The giveaway is the elastic bands holding the wings on! The engine is an Enya 35 fourstroke inverted . Futaba radio gear and flies like a dream .

The Concorde is only 22" span ,built from a plan with sheet balsa wings and a veneered foam fuselage . It's powered by a Cox TeeDee .049 glow engine running on 30% nitro with a pusher prop .You can just about see the engine at the back . It's quite difficult to fly . You have to throw it like a javelin to get up airspeed,then let it build up speed for about 100 yards before you attempt to climb away .Once going it's OK .

The yellow and blue 'plane is a 54" span funfly called Millenium built from a free plan and powered by an Irvine 53 twostroke . Alas ,it is no more !

Yes I am the "Pete" behind Pete's Pilots and these are two of my 1/4 scale creations . The jet pilot in the seat is made from painted latex mouldings .And was used in a fabulous 1/4 scale turbine powered Hawk ,which seems to have vanished from the modelling scene . The seat was made by an RAF technician a few years ago .

The other pilot has a lightweight foam body and real clothes .The head , hands and feet are made from foamed polyurethane resin in silicone moulds . Inside the body is a bendable wire skeleton enabling the pilot to be properly posed. He is the pilot for an Army AOP (Aerial Obsevation Post) Auster. Here is a picture of him and his mate in their berets .

I think that I have seen your Concorde flying ? well if it was not yours it looked similar at the Scale days at Old Warden,I can imagine that javelin throw as well !

You must have a made a few of these pilots by now ? correct me if I am wrong but are they a type of latex or similar material ?

Those Army Air Corps pilots look superb,the army Auster's are under-modelled in my opinion.

Yes I did fly the Concorde at Old Warden some years ago, It created a bit of a sensation despite it being about the simplest model there.

My pilots were all originally made from latex and painted to look like cloth or leather . Most of them still are . The latex I buy in 45gallon barrels .It looks like single cream and is the natural latex from the rubber tree (Hevia Braziliensis) preserved in ammonia .I have over 2000 moulds ranging from 1/18 scale to 1/2 scale. Some figures are made up from as many as 12 components meach requiring a separate mould . The Auster pilots have vitually no latex in them apart from their berets . They are made from foamed polyurethane resin , Upholstery foam wire and cloth .They can be posed exactly as required . I produce 600 - 1000 pilots per year

***Pete that sure is some putput,and thanks for this very interesting insight into your 'little people' industry,the material sounds fascinating,I tried a tub from my local art shop but it seemed to take forever to cure,there was also some additive that bulked it out a bit but perhaps it had been in stock for too long as I should not think the shelf life is that great ?

That is also a lot of moulds to call on if you need them,it is surprising that you are virtually the only manufacturer of these specialist items,they are really works of art in themselves,it is not just the pilot figure itself but all of those fiddly accessories like goggles etc that have to be made somehow.
