Hi all.

Anyone bought any models in the last couple of days?

I bought some online from a model store (a large reputable store with a physical store too) yesterday afternoon (but I'm not going to say which store because I don't know if that's where it happened).

Anyway, last night two transactions were made in Brazil!!!

The first for over £300 and a second for over £150.

They got the first but my bank thought it was suspicious so declined the second.

They said I'll get it all back so I'm not too bothered (especially since Karma's a bitch).

The only reason I'm posting this on here is because that store is the only place that I've never used before (even though I know the details could have been taken months ago).

Maybe there a wave forming, of these frauds targeted at hobby shops, not so long ago, it was Hannants (or rather the credit clearing company they use) that had been compromised. It's getting annoying, that these crooks can get away with these things so easily, while we can just sit and watch, loosing trust in the credit card system.

Glad to know you get all your money back, not everyone is fully covered against fraud.

Me too. With a credit card you are well protected,it's probably the safest way to shop online. The only real inconvenience is the hassle of the cancelling and re-issueing of the card.

There were people after the Hannants debacle saying they would never use their card online again! I bet the same people would think nothing of handing it over to a waiter in an unfamiliar restaurant where it disappears,out of sight,for a couple of minutes. There have even been scams in which cards have been swiped and read in department stores.

All my cards are protected and my card never leaves my sight when eating out. These days you have to be responsible as well as relying on the protection from the companies

There's a petrol station near where I live which is notorious for card cloning, mine got done there about 10 years ago and it's still happening by all accounts

Luckily my bank is always on the ball and stop non-PIN withdrawals immediately in these instances

Where it's offered, I use PayPal. I *believe* it's safer, and I *feel* safer, but don't know of course if it is in fact. But I do prefer not to have my card details stored on an online site. Hhaving said that, it is stored on Amazon, but have never (touch wood) had a problem there.

Like you, I only use Paypal because I think it's safe. However, I do take one further precaution which may help. I have an account which is only used for my Paypal dealings, and I only put in what I need to cover those bills. My main account is totally separate and is never used on the Internet.

I have to say so far it's never happened to me, touch wood but this is one of the reasons i always use my local hobby shop and i always carry cash when making a purchase. If i need to withdraw cash i do it inside the bank and usually take out a little more than i need, i know this is over cautious but i've been lucky so far. I hope you get all your money back but i would also inform the shop in case they aren't aware that it's happened.
