    Grass

    Hello

I have finished my 1/72 Sopwith Camel and want to make a tiny diorama - I fancy having it on grass with, perhaps some fencing behind it and a lamp post (I have the lamp post)

What's a good solution for grass please? And does anyone know of a supplier of 1/72 wooden fencing?

    Thanks

    Aidan

a bag of static grass is quite cheap from most model shops that deal with model railways, i just paint the base green then coat with pva glue and sprinkle the grass on and wait to dry.jobs a goodun.whilst at the model shop pick up a few bits of balsa wood, dead easy to cut with a knife and make your own fences, glue them together with tiny dots of superglue. just divide the natural height of the fence you wanted to model by 72 and thats the height of your model fence so a six foot high fence will be an inch high on your base

Thanks Andrew. I have never used railway grass. I guess I'll give it a go.

static grass is cheap and easy to use. I do suggest getting a few colours and mixing them to get realism.

the herb dill is a good alternative for rough pasture land. it also fades and weathers itself over time and looks better as it ages.

as Andrew said balsa is the best wood for cutting and glueing. you could try cutting matches lengthwise to make planks ... bit trickier but a little more robust. saying that I use balsa for nearly everything in my dios

Aidan you really have been greedy collecting all those names. Great snarl as well.

I have used this one & worked well for my purposes. If you look on my Gallery you will see my airfield.

Another vote for grass mats. You can easily cut them up and make several dio bases. I use mine to merge with my backdrops.

Laurie - 57 years ol being called the wrong name!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drives me up the wall! My mother in law, when I was introduced to her 20 years ago, called me Eamon and has called me that ever since! You would think that, as I age, I would become more tolerant but no. It's laziness. People look at my name and think they see Aiden or Adrian etc.

The grass mat looks great and easier than the railway stuff.
