    Battery facts.

A good friend sent me the following which I thought would be of interest to many here-

Almost everyone uses or has used batteries at some stage in their life and I am wondering if any of you on the forum have, used the charger/maintainer and

    desulphator units?

For years I too had problems with battery operation and longevity, then I came across an article about desulphator's and It all made sense since. I got on the

web and started researching these units, and desulphation itself, and thought I'd give it a try. The units from the company that I've included here were

    inexpensive so I ordered one.

That was (2) years ago; I've taken batteries that my friends had taken out of their airplanes, cars, and trucks, as "dead", and ran them through the

charging/desulphation process and have saved, and am now using about 95% of them.

Periodically I'll hook my airplane, etc., up for a trickle charge and so far they haven't failed me when needed.

I was just wondering If anyone else was or had tried this process. Also for you that like to build electronic "stuff", there are plans on the net to do

    your own.

PS-We all take batteries for granted, however I often wonder after reading the above whether we get the very best from what we use before we throw them away ? I remember once reluctantly buying some tablets from a car accessory shop to rejuvenate some cells in an old battery, they really worked ! and the battery was saved, have you had any similar experiences,if so we want to hear your story here ?

    Hi Wonwing,

I'd love to know if this system works with jelcell batteries. I keep being offered ones that have been used in burglar alarms, and being 6 - 12 ones around the 10 amp area ideal for model boats. To get a couple to start charging again would cut costs considerably.

Thinks, and I thought it was only George who was tight :smile1:

    Regards

    Chris

How do you get into a gel-cell and would the miracle additive mix with the gell? My experience with "ex-service" batteries has been very good, usually BT or similar. Lots of the are only used in emergency situations ie to switch on a back-up system. Some 3 year old ones I bought 8 years ago are still going strong in my flight box. The vendor said that they had only about 30 minutes "use" in the 3 years they were in the system. They looked new, my best bargain in a long time, trouble is I dont know when I`ll be back in Dover again ! :smile3:

Looks as though it's back to the drawing board then.
