hi folks I couldn't find a section to say hello so I thought id do it here. Im a recent modeller although I did use to make them when I was a kid . I got back into it in January after about thirty years by accident really, there is an old fella down my local and hes a realy nice chap and decided to throw him a birthday party and we decided to get him a model of his old ship he served on in WW II (HMS Ramilies ) but couldn't get one at all so we clubbed in and got him a HMS Warspite . I was the only one who had any experience at making models so I decided to make and paint it. boy did I over reach myself , I made the mistake of getting the academy version but after that I enjoyed it so much I stated it up as a hobby again. ive been reading some posts and have piked up some good tips so I have decided to stay lol . I maily build WWII warships and as soon as I figure out how to upload photos ill put some of my better ones on as some ive made a real pigs ear of lol.

Hi Alan.
Welcome pleased to see you like it here. A very nice place to be most unlike any other forum for models or other things. Most helpful where members can put their ideas with out getting their heads bitten off.
Are you continuing with warships ? Warspite & Ramillies both old ladies. Must just have missed seeing Ramillies which was in Portsmouth at the end of the war. Family went down to Portsmouth as the we had lost a member in a submarine. The memorial had been removed for refurbishment but instead Dad & I managed to get onto an operational T class sub. Not bad for an 8 year old.

hello laurie , I am still building warships I have a Tamiya 1/700 HMS Repulse from the waterline series which I intend to build as if at sea, I also have a Tamiya 1/350 HMS KG5 to build. I have built other kits but warships are the main. it must have been great as a kid to go aboard a sub. the friend I mentioned in my opening post was aboard thee ramy when she was in Portsmouth , he served on her from 43 to 46. thanks for the welcomeComment

Hi Alan and welcome aboard.
Good to have another ship builder they are few and far between, although there has been a surge of interest from people trying something new.
I like a good boat and the odd ship but am mostly into RAF and British armour.
I'm fighting my way though a build of Lusty at the moment and have hit a pause, due to a missing part... just waiting for it to turn up in the post.
I look forward to seing some of your builds.

Welcome Alan, sounds like you had a fun time building a ship that got you back into modelling. Looking forward to seeing your work on here. Any questions, just ask away, there will most likely be someone who can answer them. Most of all, enjoy your modelling.Comment
