    Scale models of industrial equipment

    Hello Everybody

Sorry to intrude onto your forum, but I felt that this would be a good place to find scale model help.

To give a bit of background, I work for a testing company and we test things like shipping containers and pallets and this year we are going to a couple of exhibitions to promote ourselves. We need something to attract visitors, so we thought models of some of our test equipment would be quite cool (I've attached a example picture below).

Can anyone suggest a starting point? I guess we are looking for either 1:10 to 1:20 scale.

    Thanks

A starting point would be a stack of balsa wood, some styrene sheets, some electrical wire and a bundle of varying width plastic/metal tube.

You would presumably have the dimesions of the full scale item so just convert them to the scale size (i.e. convert to inches/centimeters and divide by 10 or 20 to get your scale measurement).

The unit looks to be about 13ft high? ... this would work out to 15 inches at 1:10, or 30 inches at 1:20

Then just basically build it and assemble it as you would the real thing.

Nut/bolt heads can be made from thin slices of hexagonal plastic rod, any glass/plexi windows could be formed from clear plastic used in packaging etc etc.

If you show close ups of individual items you need (or get stuck on) then i'm sure members on here could offer ideas to manufacture each part.
