Please forgive me, but I really, really hate the word 'stash', I always relate the word to drugs or some other hateful things, why not call them a 'collection'...

Good point I'm not sure but“stash” seems to be used by modellers who have the intention of building the kits they have bought, instead of collectors who are interested in the kit as a collectable item with no intention of building them.I am sure a grey area exits between the two. "Phalinmegob" will back me up on this,(although I am not sure he has seen the collection in the flesh). We have a model collector in our club who is only interested in 1/700 scale ships and buys were possible an example of every 1/700 ship kit that's been released including resin. His kits are all stored in plastic containers by manufacturer and release date, taking up two large bedrooms and the loft.I have a passing interest in 1/700 scale ships and asked if he had a Samek HMS Vanguard (quite a rare kit) he was able to pull out of his collection 3 unopened examples. As you can imagine his collection runs to many thousands of kits, actually it's quite interesting to see kits from the late fifties and early sixties in their original packaging which as a child I had built. It's not for me but as they say what ever floats your boat (please excuse the pun), after all is it any different from collecting stamps, football memorabilia etc. and that's what I consider to be a collection.

Never thought about the word stash like that. I just have it as a stash is a stock pile of things to be built. A collection is just that. A collection of things that are of two purposes. Either to look at once in a while, happy in the know that you have that one, or just to sit on until the value goes up.

Deep down inside, I actually have a nasty thought or to for those that buy up everything they can get their hands on, with the sole intent of waiting until the market is hungry for them....

Some where out there is a guy that has a big pile of long wanted kits and dribbles them out on E-bay when he needs a bit of cash......Shame on you!!

I get what your saying, but, I look at it this way, you collect different bits and bobs ready to build up a model, so you would therefore have a collection of bits, to be used for that said purpose, when I see people who have more kits than they'll ever be able to build, even if they managed to build one each week, that is not a collection, that is just hoarding...

So you can either have a collection to look at, or have a collection ready for building, the ones who have a load of wanted models and as you say Ian, leaks them out just to make money, now to me, that is what I'd call a 'stash', it's one of those hateful things, that people do...

reckon about 40. all ships. thing is with me..ill come up with an idea of a build, buy it,store it,,,then low and behold, ive thought of a better idea....so i need another kit. i suppose collecting the kits is another aspect of our hobby. i must confess though. once built, i get rid of them straight away. im too critical to display them and i always want to do better

When this thread first appeared I had 4 kits + 1 I was building the wife was worried I was going to get carried away and end up with loads never built yeah like that was going to happen ! But with a bit of coercion and me looking like I'd lost £20 and found 50p when in a hobby shop buying paints she folded and now I have 27 unbuilt and 3 being built and I have another three from Santa that I know of

                              Cheers, Neil
