In fact, I have just ordered his book "Most Secret War. British Intelligence 1939-1945" £6.00 He told us about some of his work on Radar.

That is interesting Steve. He is a very interesting character. He was on a TV programme telling about his work must have been back in the 70s or 80 s.

Read his book 3 times you will be suprised at the start some bits very funny. He is an unsung hero as the work he did for Britain was incredible & saved many many lives. He did the work in so many fields & also stood up to Churchill, his tutor Lord Cherwell (as he was before being Lorded Lindeman Churchills Science advisor & friend) & many others. He was so right on the V1 & V2 about their construction & capabilities & all the other advisors way out. A great read especially as it could have been so boring. He gives a fascinating narrative about his life & family at that time.

Cheers Laurie, it must have been a rather exciting time for you. In a way you were privileged to grow up during, and have memories from such a memorable time in history.

Does anyone else have memories from growing up during this time, or serving during this time? It's all very fascinating to me. My aunt used to live in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, and remembered seeing a twin tailed German aeroplane crash into a swamp in the distance behind her house. They never recovered it, presumably the crew were still in it. She had a story after the war in which she said she saw ghost pilots wandering across the area. Maybe an over-active young mind at the time I think.

The TV programme was the Royal Institution Lectures on the BBC immediately after Christmas, (now sometimes on other channels). I forget the year but it was in the late 1970s I think. I watch them every year. You want to know how the Gecko clings to a window pane? How evolution managed to create the eye? Its all there.

Must have been another series Steve. The one I saw was about bending the beams (not really) numerous other things about WW11 including the V1 & V2.

You are right! What I meant to say was that the RI Lectures over the years will tell you just about everything about science (including geckos and eyes).
