Hmm one of them 75% scale ones with a 6 channel RC unit would be fun at the local RC club. To be honest, if you are going to the efforts of building a flyable replica of a spitfire, build them full size!!!

Even dig one up in Burma Ian.
If they can find King Richard the III in a car park after all that time it must be easy to track down a Spit. King Richard was not even wrapped in tarred & greased paper or buried in working order.
Do you think that car park will now be named the "King Richard the Third" car park ?
I'm with Ian on this one, build em' full scale and if you're gonna do that for goodness sake put a merlin in it too because the V8 just isn't meaty enough. A Spit just isn't the same without that distinctive roar.
About 10 years ago kicking my heels waiting for a computer conversion I visited a museum place. Must be on the way to Hull a few miles out of the centre of York.
They had replicated fullsize aircraft. But they had used anything they could get their hands on. Tin boxes, parts of plastic bottles. It was only when talking to one of the builders he pointed out how & what they had built the aircraft with. Anything went to get the looks using throw away things. Just wonder if it is still there ?
I live in Hull and know most of the Museums in the area, but can't think of one with any replicated Spitfires other than a very good replica on the gate at Elvington!
There are some replica's at Eden Camp Museum, but these are also pretty accurate as well.
Any more details you can provide, and I'll take a drive out and photograph if they are still in existence!

Agree entirely, however not everyone can afford to run a maintenance-intensive V12 Merlin. At 3,000 to 6,000 pounds per hour to operate a full size Spitfire, the scaled replica looks pretty attractive to non-millionaires.
Must be someone here in the York area.About 10 years ago kicking my heels waiting for a computer conversion I visited a museum place. Must be on the way to Hull a few miles out of the centre of York.

Laurie,
Youy are talking of the Yorkshire Air Museum just outside York and I think just off the ring road. They have a wonderful Mossie in the process of being restored, and a fantastic room dedicated to Barnes Wallis, I could have stayed there all day. I remember the Spit you are talking about, it looked good from a distance but odd when you got close up. I've got some pictures somewhere of the day out, which I will try to dig out. I think I posted one of a pink Buccaneer on here a couple of years ago for someone who was building one at the time.
