    hello there .... quick question

hi there ... is it possible to delete / remove one's profile and log on ... i have been on here for a few years and had a whole lotta fun and learned so much good stuff .... but sadly the models are getting a wee bit too expensive for me and i have not been able to buy one for the past several months. Seems that i need to look for a less expensive hobby ...

appreciate anyone letting me know if it is possible

    cheersl

That's tough Lindsey, is there no way round it or any way you can shave costs? If you use an A/B could you sell it and revert back to brushes, serious suggestion!

I do hope you will reconsider, we've had some nice P/M exchanges and it would be great to still swop messages.

Can't help you with your question, I'm sure one of the mods. will be able to advise.

    Cheers,

    Ron

      That's a sad post!

I would suggest that you just note down your user name and pass word and keep it a safe place. Log out and you can always drop in again when ever you feel the need. I fear that deleting all you info might leave some holes in the forum.

There are other members that are pretty passive and just drop by for a chat once in a while. I would suggest you do the same.

Hi Lindsay, firstly I'm sorry to hear of your predicament but then I'm not sure why you would want to delete your profile anyway. It doesn't cost you anything and it is still your identity that we all know on here. If you remove your profile you will loose the history of any of the communications you may have had, which may well be of use to you again at some point in the future. Basically you are asking to delete your account and simply log in as a guest but I don't see any need to do that.

As regards the cost, it is one of the things that dissapoints me more than anything about this hobby as it seems to be driven by the big glamourous manufacturers trying to get us to part with ever increasing amounts of cash for more ready built kits. Just have a good look around this forum though and see how many members are assembling old kits, purchased off the Internet very cheaply. They are getting as much enjoyment from doing that as the perfectly manufactured kits are giving us for a fraction of the price. eBay is a great source of such kits as are local markets and second hand shops but taking this even further what about scratch building your models? That probably gives the highest levels of satisfaction and can invariably use scrap materials of no real value. A lot of my friends scratch build model boats that can work out very cheaply as they are only really paying for the plans and materials.

Sorry to read about your problem Lindsey, but I'd second all the ideas the other guys have put forward.

I try to work and buy kits as cheaply as possible, I'm not rich either. But I get real satisfaction from making a cheap kit look good.

Hope you don't stay away too long.

          Tony.

Hi Lindsay times are difficult & experienced that ourselves recently.

Nice couple of kids there & they take a lot of money to look after & they are very precious. We have four of my own & Pauline & I were talking the other day about how on earth we made out. Something has to give. A lot here seem to take a "rain check" & then come back . Hope you can do that.

Worth keeping on here Lindsay if it is just for a chat to keep in touch.

It reminds me of my early days when all I could afford as a youngster was a Series 1 Airfix bagged kit every week with my pocket money. I never lost the love for modelling though so had to supplement the Spitfires and Mustangs with something a bit more creative such as diorama bases made from household bits and pieces and my first few attempts at kit bashing to prolong the building enjoyment.

I`m unemployed at the moment, so I know what you are feeling at the moment.

I can`t afford the models I would like.

At my LHS, the owner lets me pay a bit here and there and when I`ve payed enough in I can collect whichever model he`s put by for me,

not the best or most ideal way but needs must.

Also if you can get to the odd show there are a lot of bargains to be had from `under club tables` where members are selling unwanted stash items...eg...at one show I was able to buy a 1/25th T34/85 kit for the princely sum of £5, a lot of kit for the money and when I build it a lot of modelling enjoyment for little outlay.

                Malc.
