    Which airshow to go to?

OK, so I have decided to bully/cajole the rest of my family to go to an airshow this year. Sadly, my nearest - Biggin Hill - is no more, so I'm looking at Duxford. I live in SE London, and would most likely drive.

I'm mainly interested in WW2 stuff. In May Duxford has a "Mighty 8th" celebration, which should of course feature plenty of US planes, or there's the Legends show later in the year.

Which one, though? Any thoughts or experience appreciated.

Such a problem to have. Which one to choose?

Over here we have an easy choice, there is only one. Even that alternated between Two airports. One ten minutes up the road, the other a good four/five hours drive.

Silly answer, but, can you not just go to both, go with your family to one and go on your own or with friends to the other...

Tony, without a doubt get yourself to the Flying Legends show my friend. I've been to the show 2 years running at quite frankly it's awesome. It's also well worth paying for a gold pass too as you are guaranteed a seat + the aircraft taxi right past the seating area, the smell of aviation fuel being burned through a merlin is intoxicating! Nuff said!

Thanks for the advice chaps. I was thinking more of the Legends show, but also wondering if the Mighty 8th would feature a P47 and/or P38, which I've never seen.

The role call for the Legends is impressive. If I'm a good boy, maybe I could go to both.

I'd go for "Legends" if I had to choose one. If you go for a Gold or Silver pass you will be guaranteed a seat in a decent position. You often (can't remember for Legends) have the flight line walk included and, most importantly, you'll have access to a nice clean and nearby loo. You'll also be able to buy over priced refreshments in your area which is a dubious bonus. Me and the boss always take our own (refreshments, not loo )

If you can afford it, I'd say go for it.

It's a popular show. Leave plenty of time to get in and get parked. You can always kill time before the flying in the museum and wandering amongst the numerous stalls. Don't expect to make a sharp exit either.

You'll have a great day out.

              Cheers

              Steve
