    Forum Upgrade

I have just upgraded the forum to the latest version of vBulletin, this is still in beta so I guess I will have to upgrade again sometime soon, but that shouldn't take too long and chances are no one will even notice

There are a few nice features in this version and I have yet to find them all, but these are just a few I know about.

Spell checker in the reply box, if you look in the top right hand corner you will see ABC, but I think this will only work if you have IeSpell installed, this is a free download and you can get it here

Also next to the ABC there are a couple of arrows, these will expand the reply box should you need more room.

There has been a few changes to the Java script used and if you experience any problems you will need to clear your cache, you can do that in IE by going to Tools/Internet options then click the delete files button, this should sort out most problems.

A new technology is also implemented called Ajax (no it's not the cleaning stuff ) it allows you to make changes without having to load the whole page, so for example when you reply to a post using the quick reply box it will just add the post rather than adding it after it has reloaded the page, thus making the forum faster to use, and also a nice feature if you want to edit your post just double click in it rather than using the edit button, that is just a couple of the examples there are many but to be honest a lot of it just goes over my head :bash:

Any if you have any problems or find any bug please let me know.

and one last thing, during the upgrade I took the oppertunity to remove some forums that had very little use, I have moved all the posts so none where lost, I have also made a couple more category's and moved some forums in to them, just to try and make it a bit more tidy

    Thanks

    John

Look forward to finding the new features John,I think streamlining the forums that had little use was a good move,a pity that the model rockets feature never took off,you never can tell with these things? it has come together nicely and the latest upgrade is an important step in the forums continuing development.

The new forum upgrade looks good, it seems alot easier to navigate, I am one who is useless at these things, but, have found this afternoons trip around the scale model forum very nice, with no going to pages I didn't mean to, I have not pressed the " back arrow" once. plus great to have a spell checker.

          Mike.

If it makes it easier and more user friendly then it was worth the time

Is part of the upgrade an “anti-vulgarity” spell checker, I see that we now can’t call a cockpit a ****pit, will we have to “Americanise” and call it “the office”?

It is also changing existing threads; below is a quote from my Parnall Elf thread

“ the bottom sheeting was left until after the ****pit detailing was finished.”

I agree with the principle but I think this a bit over the top!!

Adz hopefully you should be able to see the toolbar, anyone else have any problems with it you will need to go to your UserCP and choose Show Enhanced (WYSIWYG) Editor Toolbar.

As for the smillies in the quick reply I'm working on that and hopefully should have it sorted soon

Greyhead you have your cockpit back

Just a reminder if you have any problems posting or viewing the forum use either crtl+F5 (In Internet explorer) or clear out you cache and that should sort out most if not all problems
