hiya folks

not been well so im just trying to make a convo so whats everyones favourite film today or in the past.

my best film will have to be Tomb raider

the latest film i went to see is just friends which is a funny film and well done what about you people?

Differrent films for differrent categories.

Comedy, I love 'Shrek' and 'As good as it gets'.

Drama, would have to be 'Braveheart' or 'Master and Commander'

Tearjerker, 'Shadowland' ( if you haven't seen it watch it and see what I mean)

Horror, 'The Shining', Jack Nicholson at his best

But probably the one movie that left the most lasting impression on me and I consequently think it should be compulsory viewing in all schools is 'Saving Private Ryan'. If everyone watched that film at a young enough age we might just go some way towards avoiding it all again.

Well my favourites are-

The Great Waldo Pepper' for its scenes of the 1930's barnstorming and portrayal of Udet at the end.

'Spirit of St.Louis' brilliant oldie with superb acting by James Stewart of the first atlantic solo flight.

'Flight of the Phoenix' another James Stewart brilliant piece of acting,and because it is a living tribute to the late Paul Mantz who was sadly killed while making the film ( although I have the re-make on DVD not yet watched it )

'High Flight' Anthony Newley,story around the CFS Central Flying school at Cranwell.

Non aviation film favourites-

'Lust for life' the story of Vincent Van Gogh.

'Futtocks Hall' a small fill-in type of film made by the late Ronnie Barker,he never spoke a word in it,but boy was it funny !

'One flew over the cuckoo's nest' Jack Nicholson,funny and eye opener at the same time.

War film:A Bridge Too Far

Crime film: The bank robbery with the 20 minute silent passage (Roccoco?)

single word title, black/whitec1950's

General: the Dustin Hofman film of the car journey to California with him as dyslexic brother. Fantasic performance by Hoffman, both funny and moving.

"Mr Blandish builds his dream house" with "Cary grant" the man is simply superb!

best war film "When we were soldiers" mel gibson private ryan was good but his really hits home simply stunning and very emotive i urge everyone to see it!

best comedy has to be the "blues Brothers"

Best western "Rio Bravo" John Wayne at his best

best thriller "Marathon man" dustin hoffman shows why he is so regarded

best sci fi gotta be with out a doubt Star Trek ^ the undiscovered Country"

and on top of it all how can any one forget "Zulu" i sat in the cinema for four consecutive shows one hell of a film!!!!!!!!

OK went to see King Kong last week, very good and some nice bits in it and even ended up keeping in with the Original Film as a perfect tribute.

Iron Eagle 1 and 2 still rate highly in my books....yes old Hercule Poirot is the baddy pilot in these films (David Suchet)...somewhat ironic in that these films feature a Middle East war 2 years just before the Gulf War Happened first time round.

The sound track from the first film was excellent and Road Of the Gypsy is on my top 10 list.

Not seen M&C but I have heard it is a very good movie. You would recomment it then?

The film is worth a watch just for the music and the planes alone...F-16's, ok corny story line but so long as you don't take it seriously, it's an enjoyable film. Louis Gossett Jnr is good as well.
