    So what do you think?

I've been thinking for some time about upgrading the forum software, I've been using vbulletin for over 10 years but now vb5 is coming out and I've been beta testing it for the past year I'm not too keen and won't be upgrading to it, so I was thinking about trying IPB, it seems fast and easy to use, if you have ever visited britmodeller and posted on their site then you will know what I mean, it's the same as they use.

I would be able to move all the posts, users etc so nothing would be missing, I hope

IPB works well. If you feel the need to change then i'll still be here. To be honest i'm not sure just how much the users would know the difference between the two programs. A thread is created and replied to the same way as it is now. The only difference is probably all in the admin side of things.

Had a look at Brit Modeller & to me it just looks different.

Rather like driving a new car it just is not quite like the old but fun to drive with something new.

But being old I like things which I know how to use. I like to use my time productively & unless it gives me something worth while I stay with what is.

On balance I would stay with the existing.

I reckon whatever you think is right john, i have no idea about computer stuff , so i trust your judgement. I know its a bit taxing for luddites like myself to adapt to changes (i've got my settings on the 2011 version of the site cause i couldnt get on with the last update!!!)but if you think its needed then im right behind you . tony

The bottom line is that if the new forum works quicker and will be up to date, where as the existing one will slowly fall behind.....

I say go for it. It's not as if we are strangers to britmodeller. I often see our members on there was well.

I`m getting old ( 46 and a computer numpty ) so don`t like change , I`m in the keep it as it is camp , I`m also a member of Brit modeller but only go on the automotive section , I find the Scalemodel forum just as good to use if not better to navigate around and its easier to upload photo`s on here also .

Just my 10p worth , whatever you choose John I`m sure it will be the best for the site .

I'm in the "if it ain't broke" camp myself.

Main points .......from experience in maintaining a forum...

If the users won't see the difference then is it worth the hassle changing.

If the forums running fine then why change it anyway.

If the new system costs less to run then change it, anyone who doesn't like it can stay or go, and candidly speaking, there'll always be someone to replace them.

At the end of the day its your forum John, you maintain it, and its up to you what you do with it.

I think I will probably stick as we are, for now at least, I guess I don't need the extra work

I was thinking of changing because it's been a while since VB4 came out and they will probably stop supporting it in the near future, and if they do as browsers get updated things will start to break, like the IE10 problem a while back.
