    PC audio head phones problem

    Any help would be appreciated.

After all the time I have had my PC never plug in headphones which I di to day & no sound. Speakers OK.

Tried the front panel & the plug at the rear. Nothing. Neither can I find anything in devoces etc which may help although this is probably my ignorance of PC system.

Lastly the phones I have tested on the TV & work perfectly.

Last question would I be any better with a USB1 connection ? Can you get USB connectors for the usual headphone plug ?

If speakers work in the audio output then a set of headphones should work in the same socket as they both use the same 3.5mm jack (whether it be mono or stereo wiring)

You say the speakers have been independently tested on your TV, which shows they work.

I can't see any reason why they wouldn't unless they're specifically utilised for a bespoke device, saying this though.. If they were.. They would error on your TV.

Are you using an adapter or anything or is it just a straight "plug in"?

Difficult to say without seeing the setup, if you use the same socket as the speakers it should work; may be a volume issue if the speakers have built in amplification. If it is a different socket you may need to check in Control Panel, Hardware and Sound to change a setting. My other thought is to look for a headphone socket on the speakers some sets do, usually on the speaker with the volume knob.

Hope that is of some help.

Thanks Colin & Dave. Think I have sorted to a degree.

My speakers are actually USB although the previous ones were 3.5mm socket plug type & worked. The software for the new speakers must have changed them to USB settings form plug & socket. The second speaker is plug into the first. Un plugged & connected headphones to speaker one socket which work.

Looked in Settings Audio & the hardware setting is for USB without any alternative unless I pull the USB out. It does appear that on my machine you cannot have USB & a socket connection at the same time.

Going to get wireless phones with USB. Got socket phones on a long wire but tend to forget & end up with the phones being plucked from my head just as I reach the loo. Shocking !

Thanks for your time in giving help appreciated.

Not a problem. I used to use a Wireless headset for the telephone at work, very embarrassing when you sit on the bus and discover you are still wearing it.

Especially, Dave, when you took it off & every one smiled.
