Try this....

We have two wheely bins, one black, one green....We also have a smallish green plastic box (with lid) for glass and plastic, and a small blue plastic sack for paper, cardboard and junk mail.......Wake up at the back!!!

Today, Tuesday is our collection day, so out went one wheely bin and the green box full of glass ect. and the blue bag full of paper and cardboard.

We live in a very rural area, so the refuse carts are only small. One arrives for the wheely bin, followed a few minutes later by the truck which collects both the glass and paper containers, which are emptied into separate parts on the vehicle.....Easy and straight forward you say.....!!!!

After they had gone I dutifully brought the things back in and there it was, looking up at me from the bottom of the glass and plastic container.....A small CARDBOARD OXO BOX - the one that holds 12 cubes - What had I done!?....shame on me for accidently putting it in the wrong receptacle!!!!!!

Would it have been too much trouble for jobsworth just to take the offending item out of the box and place it ever so carefully into the correct section of his truck, instead of making the point he couldn't possibly take it 'cos it was in my wrong container?

Sometimes I do despair....Do you?

P.S.....the same joker accepts wine bottles with metal screw-on tops as o.k. in the glass only box!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron, I think I've already commented on jobsworths sometime ago on here, I have no time for them and grab any chance to ridicule them with technical facts that are always over their heads.

There'll be some that will say they're only doing their jobs and following the regulations laid out for them, well my answer to that is the first thing they should learn in their job is common sense and a bit of straight forward logic.

The world is full of them and we'll just have to live with it eh

Precious .............. The jobsworth is an increasing species sadly.

A couple of weeks back I called into a motorway services early in the morning for breakfast on the way to a job, The place is pretty much deserted................ Set Breakfast. Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Fried Bread and Beans........ With some toast and Tea..... £ 5.00 "Bargain!"

I asked the young bloke serving "Can I have Tomatoes instead of Beans Please?" ........... They had a big trough there of each. "No problem he says" ........... So I take my tray and breakfast to the till with a crisp Fiver in hand.

Your fella serving shouts over to young fella on till ............. He has a set breakfast but he's got tomatoes instead of beans". .......... Good system.

Young fella on till (with all the gusto of the jobsworth) says......... "Tomatoes are £1.20 extra" ........... Young fella serving " It's ok he hasn't had the beans"

Now this is the kicker..............

Young fella behind the till retorts "You can't authorise that............ Only Martin can authorise that!!!!"

I've had enough by now so I asked "Let's get Martin out here" (after all we are talking bans and tomatoes here) .......... "Martin isn't here yet" Says Jobsworth.

With that ............... I thrust the fiver at him and informed him that beans or tomatoes, I was going to eat the damn breakfast and should Martin turn up whilst I'm doing that.

...........and I have to add that whilst all this was going on I took a look at the prices next to the till........... and on the extra's list tomatoes were indeed £1.20 and so were the damn beans.

Very nice one yesterday.

Now live in a flat & there are over 350 flats in this & the sister block.

Went to our post box amongst the myriad of other boxes. There it was, reminder we live in a flat on the third floor, a brand spanking new A5 size in full colour printed both sides lavish card. Fell about laughing as the postman had delivered to each of 350 boxes an advert for "Garden Services".

Later went to the Public Dump for household rubbish & your unwanted wardrobe or mattress etc. Covers about 3 tennis courst in area. THEY have a little hut. THEY usually, 4 of them, stand in the hut 90% (really 90%) chatting. THEY are there to help the public & ensure the stuff goes into the right chamber.

THEY some times leave their enclave, not often, when they spy a hefty load of potential coming in. Almost like seagulls homing in on a stale piece of bread riddled with mildew. Juicy pieces are extracted from the chambers & lovingly studied, no good it is chucked back in disgust, or if it shows promise it now becomes a precious item & it is transported carefully into the HUT.

I have some sympathy (not a lot) with the management involved in these annoying acts. When running a biggish organisation (not a small family business) it is difficult to give individuals down the line much discretion, because, for one thing, the (the down-the-liners) don't have the wider view of the company's operations that the boss has and are not capable of making an informed judgement on the spot which the boss could make if he was there at the time. Compare that with, at the other extreme, a family business with short lines of communication and control paths (if that's what they are called) where the juniors can often sense what is right.

The other reason is fraud etc. Without, say, the checkout girl/boy being firmly told that in no circumstanced can he/she give any favours to friends, that would inevitably happen. That prevents common sense from being used. Some staff are on a low wage and not the highest skilled people in the world, and management need to make rules simple and consistent.

But of course, blockheadedness can be prevented by better management.

On Laurie's point about flats and leaflets, I think the Post Office would find it difficult to differentiate at the Postman level between types of dwellings without making mistakes, so they might simplify even if that resulted in the nonsense of that case.

My wife and I went to Southend Airport last night to pick up my daughter and her boyfriend.We saw their flight land and parked in a long lay by at the airport.The front section of the lay by is marked for taxi's and the rest of it is drop off/pick up point and a bus stop.We were in the bus stop part and it was after the last bus of the day had left.Security pickup approaches,stops and glares at us.'I wonder what jobs worth wants?' I said.Man in pick up says 'Cant park there its for taxi's!'.My wife is an ex traffic warden (I was attracted to the uniform!) and knows a bit about parking regulations.She Replies 'Bus stop'.Jobs worth says 'Taxi's park here!.Wife points at road sign and repeats 'Its a bus stop!'.Jobs worth again says we have to move .Wife shouts 'Bus stop!.But we are off now.Goodnight mr jobs worth'.And off we drove.
