    Things that annoy me

Lots, typically, but this is one of them today.

Badly misleading ebay ads or blatant outright lies.

Looking through ebay, I see this.

What it is is, Tamiya kit no 14068, Ducati 916 Strada, in poor condition, bits missing and with a badly executed 'race replica' paint finish.

What the seller is trying to convince potential mugs, errrm buyers, it is

'A rare vintage tamiya goodyear #3 kit which very few were made of back in the 80's (the 916 range starting with the strada wasn't launched as a road going machine till 95, raced 94), he's 'not sure' which version of Ducati it is yet strangely knows that it looks 'exactly the same as the real thing' ?

A start price of £9.99 for a damaged model, seriously?, whose only use might be for spares, (you couldn't even modify it given the missing parts)

RARE VINTAGE TAMIYA 1/12 SCALE DUCATI GOODYEAR #3 MODEL MOTORBIKE BIKE KIT | eBay

So, theres my rant for today!

Personally I wouldn't sell anything on Ebay unless it was A1, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Now if I was down to my last farthing, (youngsters may have to ask a older person about this), I might have to be a little less sensitive. I'm amazed how many "dealers" sell things on Ebay way above high street prices. Some buyers must be sucked in. A little searching on t'net will reveal much more competitive prices.

    End of moan

Now did I tell you about the one about old kits re-issued with nice new artwork......

Must be lucky. I have bought a lot on both Ebay & Amazon for a number of years. Mostly from dealers but some from private sellers.

All have been just as I wanted & saved a great deal of money. Just one in that time this year was not up to scratch I have got my money back. Had to prove to the seller, dealer & product was brand new, that their product had a design fault.

They returned all the dosh including postage. If they are serious traders they cannot afford to get a bad reputation on Ebay.

Happens outside of Ebay & Amazon. Bought from the Coop (Jersey) TV stand £124. Week later wanted a second one but cheap. Found one by accident £49 it was exactly the same as the £124 one. After 3 letters got a refund down to £49.

But you have to do your homework to ensure you reduce your risk to the minimum.

What really pivs me off are people that end the sales blurb on their flea bay adds with "UK Sales only" or the such. Funny that it's only ever things that I really want.

I ask most of the time and the reply is nearly always NO. Why? its to much hassle. I dont get it. That was E-bay. whos next....

Car and petrol prices in Denmark!!! We have the cheapest car prices in Europe. However thats if you remove them from the country within 24 hours. After that its VAT, duties and tax. Then some tax on top! Once you get the car you need the petrol. Thats cheap as well. About DKR 2 per liter. Again its taxes and duties that make up the pump price of around 12 - 13 kroner...:-(

        Sorry I'll shut up!

I've been pretty lucky with eBay apart from two kits I bought from the same guy, he stated they were partially started, all I got was a couple of boxes of bits that a blind monkey could have built better.

Sorry Ian but I'm guilty of always putting UK bidders only, mainly as I cant be bothered to trek to the post office to see how much postage abroad would be and if I est on my postage costs I normally end up out of pocket

Rivet counters are my main bane, I build most models for pleasure and try to get a close approximation of the subject, but you always get one at shows that loves to point out any differences, usually to his nodding dog friend.

Get the same in the Channel Isles. Sorry do not send to Jersey.

Why I ask 200,000 people why deprive them why deprive yourself. The difference in freight is minimal.

But Post Office for instance £4:00 for a package. An independant carrier £15:00.

I've only had one bad experience with evilbay. I bought an expensiveish model (can't be bought in the UK for some reason) and found that the kit had a whole sprue missing. went to ask the guy for a refund and his account was deleted. Contacted the manufacturer (Dragon) to buy the sprue I required (was willing to pay full price) and they basically fobbed me off. Not happy as I now have a kit sat here that I can do nothing with. Live n learn and all that

Oh and as for postage. I live in Morayshire but some companies only post to mainland UK and not Scottish Islands. Erm last time I checked I was on the mainland!

I never shop on ebay now i have had one kit from there infact it was the wessex i did in the group build but as for amazon the first time i used it was for a 1/24 spit at £24.99 yes iknow i had to wait a bit but after a months wait it never turned up but in fairness i got my refund ok,but that was my first and only time on amazon as i like to go and look at what iam getting in a shop and be served by a human and not computer screen and i don't have to wait ages for it.

I've had far more positive experiences buying on ebay than not, generally, most sellers are decent, the ones who don't know their posterior from their arm hinge joints will typically say so, some even ask for advice or information on a product and are grateful to receive it.

It's not only ebay of course, a seller on Gumtree repeatedly advertised a Honda CBR 400 Aero incorrectly as a 'baby blade' this being the pet name given to the CBR 400RR, a completely different motorbike, I messaged him to inform of the error thinking he may just not know but it was ignored and the bike re-advertised and re-advertised, always as a 'Baby blade' which are clearly more desirable in the grey import arena, it just irks me when the seller, either not knowing or just not caring spews forth the garbage you see in the auction above.

The kit is still plentiful, can be had as an unbuilt kit for between £10 and £20 and is certainly not 'RARE' which seems to be his buzzword, I just think he thinks it means something else, as none of the items he was selling were anything remotely like RARE.

The only badly advertised model kit I bought from ebay was a Matchbox Vincent, which had been started but only one small part and was otherwise complete and OK.

It turns out several parts had been fitted together and not fantastically and a couple of bits were broken and some bits painted, I pondered the possibility of trying to make something of it but decided that frankly it was a lost cause, to give the seller their due, they admitted they didn't really know and agreed to a refund, I offered to return it but they decided it wasn't worth bothering, I now have the remnants sitting there and picked up a later Revell re-release of the same but unbuilt.

Otherwise ebay buying and selling has been pretty smooth.

The postage thing, being in the highlands is incredibly frustrating. Especially considering Royal mail do not charge any additional costs to ship to the highlands OR islands, I have friends in the outer isles who ship large goods via RM all the time, no problem, parcel force transfer between RM to Inverness.

It's the indipendant couriers that rob the business and customer for shipping north of inverness, as they don't go that far, so they hand off to , (yep, you guessed it), Royal mail! and pass on the trandfer charge to the customer or business.

As an example. I Bought this at The Works for £5.99 (plus 10% off with a voucher you pick up in store).

Airfix A55107 North American Mustang IV 1/72nd Scale

I don't think any Ebay dealers come close to this.

Ebay was a great way to buy second hand 10 years ago, but Royal Mail prices have all but killed off bargains now.

Ive had 99 % good experiences on e-bay regarding kits , the other 1% disappointing experiences are down to myself impulse buying something thats rubbish so its down to me! I have to agree with Mr sprue above though - the recent postage hikes have made it harder to get a bargain , but i still get the occasional cheapie! Back to the topic , also concerning e-bay as it happens , is the sellers who prefix every kit description with "rare" or "vintage" and try and charge ridiculous prices for kits that arent rare or that vintage , just a bit old and usually knackered! There was a guy with a stall at the Waddington airshow last week selling just second hand kits , usually a good source of bargains , but all his kits were stupidly priced and well battered (example a 1970s airfix series 2 kit for £25 !!) He even had some more recent ones that are still available in the shops or online e.g. Eduard BF 110 instrument panel (selling for £15.99 plus £2.25 postage on e-bay), he was charging £35 and the box was squashed !!!!!!! Shameful Scott. How can people be so insensitive ?

Have you thought of complaining to the management as I am sure they will be sympathetic.

Failing that a Union job harassment always seems to work well.

Alternatively a notice saying this window will be closed until 5 minutes before "the train arrives at platform 6" due to pressure of work.

I hope things work out for you & that satisfaction is achieved as this is human cruelty at its worst.
