Thanks for your replays guys! There is an unquestionable thing, the imagination is neither in the magazines or in Internet, is in ourself.
Cheers
I agree totally with you here (if only I had imagination)
Most of my tool kit and spares comes from bits and bobs i pick up, and i do mean pick up, its amazing how many strips of metal and plastic one can find (even on the street): soldering wire, (electric and plastic wiring from canabalised electric heaters, halogen indoor heaters, i find give off a lot of heat at the expense of not lasting very long, so are good for wiring).
Necessity is the mother of invention etc etc (or no money is the mother of imagination and initiative)
Interesting replies.....Polux I agree, you can't buy imagination.
Personally, I've never bought a modelling mag., and it seems I'm not alone. I must confess to once standing in front of the W.H. Smith's mag rack.....(No sniggering) and discovered the mod. mag to be full of adverts and not much else.
As has been pointed out, why waste money on an expensive mag. when there is a darn sight more info. on the Web...and of course this great forum!
Also, if folks try and copy pro. builds from the mags, this could well lead to utter frustration if the result is not "As good"....Far better go your own way, in your own style, because no two modellers will produce the same result.......
Judging by the replies, perhaps the days of model making magazines are coming to an end, who knows?
I buy one mag a month and have built up a large pile of them which I keep at work.I read them in my tea/lunch breaks.Have read the same magazines several times and get a lot of inspiration from them.Although it does annoy me when lots of after market bits are used as I prefer out of box builds.

Agreed - not everyone has a publisher's budget to buy all the aftermarket stuff. I like the Airfix mag these days, caters for the "this is what you get" gang more so than the others.
Now Model Airplane International and Model Railway Journal,Two of my children pay for the subscriptions every year as birthday presents. If I look for anything from magazines it is in depth reviews, you can quickly get the feel of which reviewers know what they are talking about, some of the online reviews can be of questionable value as you don't know the ability or knowledge of the modeller conducting the review,of course this can also occur in magazines, but if you buy the same magazine you tend to get to know the reviewers capabilities.
The one problem with using the internet as a resource for information is that sites disappear, SMAKR and Navis (I am not sure if that's the exact name) both well known modelling sites from the past, have long gone. Like wise when the Accurate Miniature's site folded all the extra information relating to their kits was lost,(not quite as I used the “way back machine” to down load what I required) because of this I tend to waste my money on books instead. "One good book is worth a thousand magazine articles" as someone once said.
I subscribe to Finescale Modeller magazine, for me they have some pretty good articles in there and also do nice reviews on forth coming kits. I guess I can justify the spend having no family to support
