40 Year Old Decals

Gentlemen! After some advice please. On closer inspection of my 1970s Lola T160 kit (I've posted some pics in latest acquisitions thread if you're interested) I don't think the decals are going to be of any use at all. Any Ideas, advice, suggestions?? I have done a Google search and can't find any replica sets. I knew it would be a long shot but tried anyway. Are there any companies/individuals that could produce a set to order or how could I go about making my own. I have had a quick search through the forum and can't find anything on the subject. Any assistance will be rewarded by much good karma!

Hi Jason, nice model you're doing, what scale is it? There are no decal sets for this car but not all is lost, you can buy various decals/stickers: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODEL-RACING-CAR-GARAGE-SLOT-RC-CAR-STICKERS-EURO-C-A6-/360290557892?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM& hash=item53e2fd9fc4

Depending on scale of course these could do to customise the car. As for stripes etc, use the vinyl car stripes, can be bought on line or from a motor factors. You can also get car numbers too for it.

Maybe not the best, but it may help.

Cheers for the link Si, I now know where I can get some of the sponsor logos and the large white stripe can be painted on but I'm struggling with the 'Team Surtees Chevy' arrows that go on either side of the front. I'd like this one to be as accurate as possible.

It's 1/18 scale by the way

Yeah, tricky one. I wonder of you could find a good image and see if you could have one made up? As it is located on the front side of the car it is a highly visible decal so, as you say, needs to be spot on.

Obviously I can't see your decals so I don't know how bad they are. I have succeeded in rescuing some pretty dodgy old decals using Microscale's liquid decal film. Of course if the decals or the carrier film are hopelessly discoloured this won't help much.

its special paper, you can get it on ebay, its not that expensive if you look around

uses an ordinary inkjet with ordinary ink

the trick is to print on ordinary paper first to make sure its going to come out ok, print on the decal paper once happy,......leave it to dry.......spray over with a acyrlic varnish to seal

i will admit decals made this way are not as nice as commercial ones as they are not as thin but i have made some big decals that worked in the past when i needed something large

once made a 1/24 truck for someone that needed a large murial on the back of the cab,...must have been about 2 inch x 3 inch in size

be aware that the paper comes in white and transparent for different things

You should just be aware that you cant print the white decals. If there is white in the design, you will need to print them onto the white decal paper then cut them out very carefully.
