OK so I ran out of decals...

I think I have had enough of decals this weekend.

Put the top wing roundels on a current build and thought they looked a bit thick. I put them on any way. They were the Tamiya kits own decals.

Later that day they got a bit of micro sol to pull them into the detail on the surface. Then some more a couple of hours later. (repeated four or five times in total). NORMALLY by now the decals would be sucked down into the rivets and panel lines like a limpet on a rock.

These however looked rather nasty. A quick job had become a pain in the

Chose to remove them as I had some nice Xtra-decal ones, which I know to be a lot thinner.

I wet a paint brush with Decal solv and expecting a fight, was amused that as soon as the brush touched the edge of the decal it started to pop off in sections. Clean up and let dry.

Put the Xtra decal ones on and left them to settle over night.

Next day they had not pulled into the detail either. Gave them a splosh of micro set. Bunny all happened. Gave them a splosh of Micro Sol. Wrinkled up as they normally do.

UNFORTUNATELY they dried wrinkled up as well. Tried with a bit more and a soft brush, to smooth them out.....Silly idea you say, they will stretch and rip. WRONG they to fell apart and fell off!!!

Ten minuets with a bit of frisk film and a compass, a bit of paint and airbrush the job was done.

Ironicly what I had thought of doing right from the start!"!!

Moral. Always follow your initial instinct and don't always work on the principles of same make all ways work best together!!!

Sounds like decal hell Ian. Glad you got it sorted in the end.

Thanks for the tolerance of my self-indulgence.

The Blue is a tad off but close enough. I did consider removing ALL the markings and painting them as well but I'm not to keen on buggering the "reasonably good" paint job up..

So I will live with the slight difference.

Just need to give it a bit of a flat coat and I might just post a photo of it....If you're interested that is.

Is this the Tamiya Spitty? I'd love to see it.

              Cheers

It is indeed Steve, well guessed (!)

I just felt like building it "on the sly" with out stopping to take photos all the time.

I have taken a few along the way and will post them up as well. When it is finished :P

I will just say I have enjoyed it so much I could do another....

How's that Hobby boss kit, had a look at it yet Steve?
