    spitfire or lancaster?

I love the Lancaster and saw one in the flesh the other day and I will make one soon as it was probably one of the first I ever did as a young boy and will never forget it what a machine.

but im thinking of doing a spitfire first.

Im thinking 32 scale and wow what a price difference between some kits.

I always have liked tamyia kits and the do a 32 scale which looks pretty good but the tag is £120 where as there are other kits for about £20

is there really that much difference in what you get in the box?

Well in my experience which isn't vast on spits I'd say in can be a huge difference in quality of detail on the tamiya kit I would imagin all the cockpit detail is completly spot on and authentic but some other makes will scrimp on the detail of a part , on the tamiya kit the instrument panel would have raised parts you could paint but on the other you might just get a decal

Just a thought Steve. Will you want the three -- Hurricane Spitfire & Lancaster together at some time ?

      Only the Spitfire at 1/32 is 14" * 11" (.35 * .28mm). The Lancaster 33" * 28" (1.00m * 0.7m).

If you have the room they will look magnificent.

The Tamiya 1/32 scale spits can be found for under a ton if you look around.

The Price is high, but you get what you pay for. A great fit and plenty of detail. Though not 100% correct as many will point out.

If you want to do the Lanc spit hurricane combo. I would say go 1/48. Still big but you wouldn't need to build an extension.

yes they are the three planes that made Britain great.

I tested my 6 year old daughter today climbing crowdon clogh on the accent to kinder scout today.

at one point she was standing on a 6" ledge with a 30' drop below.

she found it a bit daunting but did it.

next time were out we are going to bleaklow to check out the remains of the aircraft that survived the war but couldn't tackle the peak district weather conditions.

there is a lot of Lancaster on the top.

I was so pleased to see one fly over my house a few days ago.

1 48 I will look at as a 132 Lancaster would take me 2 years to do

If you want a 1/32 scale Spitfire I agree with Ian. The Tamiya offering is way out ahead of the pack. It is also the most accurate in this scale, also by a margin. Of course there are always a few niggles for the rivet counters to jump on, but I have put mine next to the Hasegawa version and, well, it's not a great result for Hasegawa which is still not a bad kit.

For me at least, at 1/32, Tamiya is the best choice. I have a Hobbyboss kit in the stash which looks okay, but definitely second best. The issue is the price. You do get what you pay for, but at around a ton it is a hefty wad of cash. Despite the Tamiya kit's relative complexity it is very well engineered and goes together very nicely.

There is a lot more choice, a lot less dear, at 1/48. The Tamiya 1/48 Lancaster is a substantial size, 1/32 is huge.

It's a great project! I did the three of them in 1/72 some years ago. I can't find a picture to show you, but they were posed flying in formation and went to a good home! They've only been back once, for a repair, and I forgot to take a piccy

Found a really bad one, but you get the idea!

              Cheers

              Steve
