had a problem with kleer on my hms defender. caused yellowing and made localised crazing. now, this morning i had a chat with our flooring rep. this is what he told me..... kleer is non profitable to its manufacturer and has been downscaled with a view to discontinuation. kleer was formulated years ago to deal with quarry tiles, linoleum and asbestos thermoplastic tiles. historically darker colours. now with the current trend of pure vinyl and laminate, kleer will yellow. hence nowadays , floor gloss is completely opaque and formulated not to discolour. lighter aesthetic tones in flooring dictate that a floor treatment should maintain clear with no residue. when i asked him about kleer he told me that the formula has changed from what it was and its a cheaper and inferior product to what it used to be years ago. no floorcovering manufacturers reccomend it. do we really trust this stuff?

Depends how you use it, some folk swear it the dogs-do-da's on clear canopies etc...I don't use it myself. I don't need stuff like that to get a superior finish...I am just that good Yes, I tell porkie-pies too...not about using the Kleer though...I be a waffling so will go now. I have heard that if you're not careful it can pool and cause an uneven finish, it actually goes on and dries in a low gloss form, folk have been tempted to spray more thicker coats then it goes a bit poo. Just even, thin coats Laurie.Originally posted by \Has any one used the Humbrol clear yet. ?Laurie

So far I would give Humbrol clear the thumbs up. To me it seems a touch thicker in consistency than johnsons klear and therefore needs less coats to get a gloss finish. It is of course much more expensive, but no point skimping at the last hurdle.Comment

I only ever use it for canopies as there are much better purpose made products. It does put a good finish on bathroom tiles though.

Bit contradictory to what I put, however, mine is from a review of the product, not actually from using it as Mrsprue has and that is what really counts.Originally posted by \So far I would give Humbrol clear the thumbs up.
