    Attaching clear

    Hello

I cannot, for the life of me, remember the name of the glue that is used to stick clear parts to non-clear parts. I need to order some as I have run out a long time ago and didn't keep the bottle.

But my main question, please is.....

I read somewhere on this forum that the glue, whatever it's called, should not be stuck onto painted surfaces. Is this correct please?

On my Lanacaster I had intended to mask the canopy, fix it to the fuelage and then spray the whole thing. However when I dry fit I see that under the canopy there is quite a large area of fuselage which will require painting before I affix the canopy. So I'm going to have to spray the canopy separately, along with the fuselage and then somewhow fix the two togther. So to cut a long and boring paragraph down to one question..... can I use the nameless glue to fix clear plastic to painted acrylic surfaces please.

    Thanks

      Hi Aidan,

I use the Kristal Klear that John has listed and have found it great stuff, plus you can also use it to make your own lenses and small windows, once it has dried you can't see it...

Aidan used to fit the canopy after the rest is finished. Problem is I found the canopies in general do not fit very well and need filler where canopy does not meet the fuselage in all places.

In future I am going to fit the canopy masked up for the canopy frame work. Then mask up the whole canopy. Finish the fuselage painting then brush paint the canopy last.

I can see that ending in tears... or at least with the frame work masks coming off with the whole mask....

Why Ian ? Have you tried it ?

I have masked up before and then over masked the whole thing which has worked perfectly.

Should I make a new thread?

Thanks for everyone's replies - my question though, is still:

Can I use Krystal Clear to cement clear parts to other parts that have been painted with acrylic paint.

              Thanks, in desperation.

I have always used Micro Kristal Klear to attach canopies to parts already painted with acrylics, though I now have some Micro Liquitape, its a similar stuff but it allows you to attach and remove stuff, it says on the side can be pulled apart and reinstalled many times if kept clean.

I have also used this method with no issues. Mask the canopy ensuring the canopy masking is applied very securely. I then leave it for a while then mask over it lightly with more tape.
