M & S top brains in customer service.

Bought Jacket in Stratford shopping mall from M & S.

Got home to Jersey. Woops it has a belt but the little loop to hold the free end when tied is missing.

Rang M & S . Loop missing I said live in Jersey bought in Stratford. Oh dear ( polite) you will have to post it back to us in the UK. Said, seemed obvious as I thought of an answer just like that, "no you send me a loop". Sorry sir can not do.

Says I. Put me thro to the supervisor. Hello sir the new brains says. Repeat the problem. Sorry sir you will have to send jacket to get a loop to Stratford. Hiding obvious anger I said I just need a loop not a journey there for the jacket to pick up the loop & then for it to return back to Jersey.

Said this is all "loopy". He suddenly agreed. I will get on to Stratford & get them to take a loop from one of their jackets & send over. Thought what a sensible type of person !!!!

One hour later. Sorry Sir they only have 2 jackets left. Seems if they had loads of jackets I could have loop but not as they were down to 2 jackets. They have offered £10 reward when I order from them on line.

Can you believe this. No. And it is not finished yet believe me.

      You are right there Joe.

I can understand when things go wrong but to then make things worse with idiot type decisions is just so stupid.

On the good side a piece which did not work arrived & I received a replacement next day with apologies.

As the years go by I get less furious at the world. I have stopped throwing bricks at the TV, railing against the use of "less" instead of "few" and shaking my head at the stupidity etc. of politicians. The future is in the hands of those under 50 and who am I to say what should be done, being someone who had his attitudes settled over half a century ago. There are so many other interesting things to think about and do, like the undercarriage of my Lancaster.

However, I do enjoy watching the progress of other people's battles so Laurie, please keep us informed

Laurie do you not have an m&s in Jersey ? Usually with things of this nature you can take the jacket to your local store and replace it.

But I take it you don't as they would have told you to do this

You give them as much grieve as you can conjur up.

Write to customer service(don't be too clever) explain succinctly.

The country is too full of jobs worth answering the phone.

Try phoning a power company and ask for a supervisor .

Then you will know what its like to feel stranded and snookered.

We need to regain Common sense.

Over the years it has lost its purpose and been replaced with targets and profits.

The customer isn't right anymore he is just the fool that hands over money. And once done is forsaken.

Yes first thing they said. They knew it was Jersey & the Jersey branch is a franchise (did all their architectural work until 65 years interrupted ) and also does not stock all that Stratford do. Also being a franchise I could see many avenues to get thrown into & forgotten. So dissmissed this option from the M & S brainy minds.

Problem is all these large companies produce non thinking robots who have degrees which do not include free logical & imaginative thinking. This is excluded from the curriculum as being a dodgy way of conducting business to the General Public who are they consider clueless & stupid without the will to complain. Phew !

Harry I think that covers & agrees with all your so true comments. The crux of the matter "ACCOUNTANTS" who instruct now for charging for mustard in a motor way cafe. Intruct plumbers to restrict taps in motor way loos so they dribble luke warm water at a dribble do I need to go on ?

I see Laurie you used your common scense and worked out the problems so decided to go down the root that should , I say "SHOULD" have got you what you needed from a customer service of a major company only to be met by as you say a robot with a book of regulations and rules there by removing any common scense this individual had

I've noticed over the last few years that rules and regulations have largely removed common scense from our society , what seems like a good idea may not work when you realy think about it

Think. This is the lost word Alan you are so so tight.

MD is on the list. To begin with I will use that as pointer to brainy !

Regret Steve though 74.99 in years I act like a 40 year old. Though the knees may not the brain, so far, is capable. From youthfull years I have always had a keen obstinacy about non cooperation & unfairness in society. Amazingly both are quite easy to obtain. As Churchill said Never never (not sure of the amount of nevers) give up. A great maxim & goal.

                    Sort of on subject.....

Recently, my wife and I had an atrocious meal at a well known nationwide cheap ale and food establishment.

The manager was rude and abrupt so I emailed the company explaining what had happened.....No reply.

I sent a second message a few weeks after and received a reply the next day, apologizing and they sent us a voucher for £20......

I mentioned the absence of a reply to a business friend of mine and he said it was common practice for big companies to ignore the first message and hope the sender will 'go away' and hope the person will not bother to send a second email......Only then will the company act!

So if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation, grab the bone and don't let go!!!

Well done Ron. Had the same experience with a television stand. Bought one then needed one for the TV in the model making parlour. First £124 Coop, second £49 exactly same. Sent 3 letters to MD before I got cash for £75.

But forget Ebay such a nice place. Until things go wrong & a steel shutter is automatically slammed down.

Well, I bought a pin vice on Ebay which was faulty. I sent an email to the seller but got no reply. I complained to Ebay, explaining the matter and got a reply form Ebay within 4 hours stating that the seller had agreed to refund the purchase price and delivery postage. I duly got the money about three weeks after I had sent the goods back (sent at my expense of ~£4 which is what the affair cost me). Not bad. However, I am wary of small sellers on Ebay.

I did the same with a dentist's mixer. Faulty. Emailed the owner thro email Ebay. Nothing. Complained to Ebay. They wrote to the supplier (China) send it back we will pay the post. Ebay closed the case after a stipulated time. No money back & Ebay say there is nothing I can do as the case is closed. They sent an email to the supplier to encourage nothing. The same supplier is till active on Ebay. Bad experience with Chinese sellers good with UK suppliers.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I love dealing on ebay. Well over 500 items bought or sold and I've only had to send back two items which were unacceptable - total loss of less than £10 for the postage. I've had other issues but they've always been sorted with refunds or replacements with no problems or cost to me.

Having said that, I'm always careful to check feedback scores and I follow all of ebay's rules and regulations - in particular, I always send items via signed for delivery. That way, I'm not only covered by ebay, but also by Royal Mail. It does mean I can't sell overseas as tracked parcels cost over £40, but I'd rather not sell than lose both goods and money!

Yes Ebay is a mixed bag someone with 25 bad reports and 20000 good reports is still a save bet .

Lets not forget that those that would moan will moan and add a pinch of self importance.

Which is why you should never take Internet reviews for real. Best not to look.

On a cruise someone wrote a scathing review but the other 999 people didn't.

the chips wern,t cooked how I like them

the tea wasn't like I have it

the cruise was marred by bad weather why didn't they go another way.

                              etc etc yada yada.
