Another back to basics question but for the sake of the uninformed what does having Barry's MSN mean?

Isn't MSN Microsoft Network and Instant Messenger a facility within that or have I got it completely wrong?

***Richard,I think they are the one and same, even Yahoo now have a version but I ditched that because it was a bit un-reliable,eventually they have plans to join forces next year,I think the generic MSN refers to the persons e-mail address which it uses, perhaps Char can clarify this ? not sure if you can link up more than one person, can you do that ? you could easily use this to speak to your wife ship to shore, even rig up a cam as well which is easy.

I have the Messenger facility on the ship, although I have to admit I find it very unreliable and frustrating.

I still think that MSN is Microsoft Network of which Messenger and Hotmail are all part of, as you can go to MSN.co.uk and find it all there. What we are refering to above is obviosly a Microsoft Messenger ID which is a completely differrent thing to, say, a Hotmail address..

I think a lot of people refer to MSN Messenger as just MSN, which like Richard said is wrong, MSN is the whole job lot, messenger, hotmail etc, you don't need a hotmail email address to use messenger, all you need is a valid email address doesn't matter if it's AOL, Yahoo or anyone of the 1000's of other free email addresses available.

But if you ask people if they have MSN they would probably say yes, yet ask them if they have messenger, and they would probably say, what's that?

When you say "chat" do mean verbally, actualy speak to someone? I use Skype to do that, free in UK, token pennies to Australia and US email addresses. Doom for BT and others?

If people want to go to their UserCP (link at the top) you can add details like MSN, ICQ, Yahoo & AIM details and then it will show as an icon in your profile or in your postbits (thats the bit to the left with your avatar in)

*** So is that is what is termed as a chat room ? it is surprising how many people are capable of being on Messenger, but do not bother,I know that a lot of groups have a regular link up at a set time and day of the week.

i have messenger' date=' and you can have joint conversations. you just start one up and then invite people into it., il pm my e-mail address.[/quote']
