Falklands by a Para & Wessex Pilot

    Falklands Conflict books.

I have read many WW11 books & they are quite something. Stiff upper lip was the order of the day, I was brought up in that atmosphere, and books of people from this era just echo that character

The books of the Falklands conflict are different. No stiff upper lip here. The authors of the books below tell of their feelings their thoughts & fears. These are stories you cannot get form television & films this is real stuff.

    Excursion to Hell

Author “Para” Lance Corpora; Vincent Bramley

We read in the papers of the fighting as they were acclaimed as heroes.

Read this book & found out as they were more than heroes an incredible story of a Para sent with his mates to reclaim The Falklands. If you want to know what it was really like this chap tells you with out pulling any punches. It is like nothing you have seen in fiction or will as it is that bad. I was shocked many times reading this book. It is told unusually by some one from the ranks.

    Down South

Author Lieutenant Chris Parry. At the time of the Falklands Pilot & Observer of HMS Antrim’s Wessex Helicopter “Humphrey”.

He wrote a diary at the time which is more like a story of each day. Humphrey rescued the SAS on the glacier in South Georgia. They located & depth charged & crippled the Santa Fe Argentine submarine again in South Georgia. Then onto the landings in San Carlos Bay.

Again as the above book you get to learn about the man scared at times tired worn out. All the things of which we know nothing.

A very good book on the Paras in the FI is A Soldier's Song by Ken Lucowiak. The bit when they a pinned down by a sniper is pure black humour from the British tommy.

Excursion To Hell caused quite a stir when it was first published because of references to the alleged mutilation of Argentine dead and shooting of prisoners. My father was in 3 Para at Longdon and has told me some hair raising tales.
