    What have I started...?

Coming back to modelling has changed me, man...! Now when my son brings home cr@ppy Made-In-China moulded plastic toys from the pound store, I look at them very differently.

So The Boy comes back from the shops, having splurged his pocket money on a bag o' plastic for £3 from Wilkos or somewhere like that. about 20 poorly moulded figures of indeterminate scale, a couple of two-part moulded plastic tanks and a couple of one-piece moulded plastic jets.

You know the sort - a bit like this, but without even the sticker on them:

So far so normal - wouldn't usually look twice at it. But this time I couldn't help myself. With some paint and some left-over decals (don't have a lot and certainly nothing nearly to scale), and no intention of attempting anything realistic at all, I ended up doing this:

Silly me! Now of course The Boy wants me to re-paint every toy he's ever owned... what have I let myself in for?!

You can put lipstick on a pig...

Good work - a lesson I learned many, many years ago.

What about spending an hour or so teaching your son to do it and buying him a few paints of his own? (Vallejo MC I would suggest as they don't spilll.)

Then you will have him hooked for life on models.....

I found a few childhood toys of my own in a box recently, and have been eyeballing them too, with the intent to "fix them up".

The hobby shop closest to me sells GI Joe toys (both 3.5" action figure and 12" version), plus vehicles and other equipment to match, I think, for the same purpose. That is, by them like models, take them apart, mix n match, repaint, have fun. I may take them up on the challenge...
