Just had these given to me

I've just had two 1/72 kits given to me one is a SMER Tempest V and the other a Academy F-51D which also has a jeep with it. (Box Art below). On having a rootle through the boxes I notice that the F-51 comes with two rear canopy parts is there a reason for this? I can't see anything in the instructions about it.

I would imagine that the second canopy is for if you want to pose the aircraft with the canopy open. It might look exactly the same but the bottom of it could be a little wider to allow it to fit the fuselage behind where the open canopy would rest.

Thanks for that, they seem exactly the same, however having a spare one means I can have a go at polishing a canopy without too much fear of having to fit a fogged up one if it goes wrong.
